KU theta should be ashamed
by: A member ofKU greek lifeAll I have to say... theta should be ashamed for silencing someone’s voice. Certain views can be pushed, advocated and beyond heard while others are shoved to the shadows and punished for the slightest things. Shame on theta. Shame on KU.

a private organization can choose to hold members accountable to certain social media guidelines. therefore, this is not a violation of free speech. it's the same rule/policy that exists as if a member would post a picture with a red solo cup in letters, etc. it simply does not uphold the values of theta, therefore there is punishment along with the action. this is not a violation of free speech, just an organization reprimanding a member for not following their specific guidelines.

Srats are vilified for many actions of their members and an individual's actions easily impacts all the members of the srat, thus members sign a media contract while active members. Extreme views either way, improper dress, drinking in photos, pda in photos are all discouraged. Each private srat has same media policies to prevent individuals actions being interpreted as views of the whole group. Members can drink, hold extreme views, etc, they are just encouraged to keep extreme behaviors off social media. Its a private club and can require members to be more private online.
