How much of an advantage is legacy status when rushing for sororities?

I think it helps differently for each chapter. For most, it can prevent you from getting cut early (I wouldn’t say it ever fully guarantees a bid) because they try their best to keep all their legacies, especially if let’s say your mom was in a specific chapter at KU. some really don’t care if you are a legacy either, but they usually tend to keep legacy’s around until at least pref day out of respect. But overall, being a legacy is great and at least gets you through a few rounds so you can really get to know the people in the chapter and vice versa

some sororities have recently changed their position and no longer require preferential treatment of legacies so that was it is more fair and equal, especially for minorities whose relatives are less likely to be sorority alumni

It depends on the chapter. Most legacies get through the first round but it depends on how you fit into the chapter on if you get a bid or not. I know of someone who went through recruitment and did not get into the chapter she was a legacy of. Not all chapters are the same across the country so the chapter at KU may not be like the one your family member was in. Just remember to find the chapter where you feel like you are at home.
