Rush this fall/honest descriptions

by:

I’ll be rushing at KU this fall and I’m wondering if someone could give me an honest (good & bad) description of each sorority house & the entire process. As far as recruitment does having an instagram really matter? I’m from out of state and I’m not on social media so I want to know if that’ll make a difference. thank you :)

Some of the past posts below give good descriptions, the one with emojis that says “real sorority rankings 💖” is fake, though.

Hi there! Social media presence shouldn’t matter to most houses, but with that I would say make sure you try and get as many letters of recommendation as possible, so the houses can get to know a little about you before the start of recruitment (in place of them looking on your social medias). As for the recruitment process itself, I think this year it’s going to stray away from what we’ve traditionally done in the past. Not much information has been released on what FFR will look like, but Panhellenic should be updating us soon! Here’s my honest (and unbiased) description of each house without ranking.

Alpha Chi Omega: known for dirty rushing, which has been getting them into trouble with Panhellenic and this caused them to go on probation last fall. That being said, however, the girls that they recruit are actually super sweet and know how to have fun. The interior of the house itself is very nice too, and was one of my favorites during house tour day. Leans more towards being a party house rather than academically-focused. Pretty popular with the frats, too.

Alpha Delta Pi: not your typical sorority girls, but very sweet nonetheless! Lots of pre-professional majors, and consistently keep one of the higher GPAs. Very involved on campus both in and out of Greek life. They continually go through informal in order to match quota. Not a house for everyone, but the girls who stick with it really seem to like it. Some girls go out, but most of them put their focus on school first.

Chi Omega: best location on campus, and puts the most emphasis on grades than any other house. From what I’ve noticed, chi o is kind of a mixed bag with the girls they take. There’s some that go out a lot, and there’s some that rarely go out and come across as “churchy”. But tbh, I’ve never met a Chi O that I haven’t liked! They’re very involved in their philanthropy as well (Make a Wish). One of the harder houses to get a bid from.

Tri Delt: Get a lot of their girls through informal, and takes a good mix of different personalities. I think anybody can find their people here. I honestly don’t hear too much about them, but the ones I’ve met in class and in my residence hall are very kind, and enjoy going out! Doesn’t seem to be a house with much drama, and they do a lot for St. Jude and the community.

Delta Gamma: their past few PCs have been really good! Very similar to Alpha Chi Omega in terms of the girls they take. I have a lot of friends in this house and they all love it. From what I’ve heard, DG has a very genuine sisterhood, the girls enjoy going out, but also know how to keep a high GPA. Well-rounded in terms of the girls they take. They also have a very cute house!

Gamma Phi Beta: not super involved on campus, but Gphis are usually super pretty and are starting to become more focused on grades. Very popular with the frats, and love party. They recruit more out-of-state girls than the other “top” houses, and are a little bit more diverse in the girls that they take. Pretty good location too, and I love the house interior!

Kappa Alpha Theta: very similar to chi o with an emphasis on grades, but these girls like to go out a little bit more. They take a variety of different girls, but do a good job recruiting. Theta always seems to be doing fundraisers or having functions, and seems to have a strong sisterhood. Most thetas I’ve met are artsy, fun, and smart. Some people see them as “boring” since they don’t go out as much as other houses, but I know plenty of Thetas that like to party!

Kappa Delta: the girls that they take are super diverse, every KD I’ve met is very different personality-wise. But they’re usually pretty nice, outgoing, smart, and involved on campus. From an outsiders perspective, they seem to have a strong sisterhood, but my friends in the house have mentioned a little bit of drama happen. They also do a lot for the community, super involved in philanthropy and RCR!

Kappa Kappa Gamma: recruit a LOT of local girls. Kappas go out a ton, and have a reputation for being “one of the guys”. Very popular with the frats, but it sounds like an intense chapter to be a part of. These girls take a lot of pride in being Kappas, but they don’t have the best reputation with the other sororities on campus (besides Pi Phi I would say). Definitely known as being the sorority that goes out the most.

Pi Beta Phi: they have a hazing scandal from a few years back, but seems like they’re trying to move on from it. I’ve met some sweet girls in this house, and very mean ones. They aren’t the most involved on campus or philanthropy, but it’s a good house to join if you’re looking to have a very “social” college experience. They’re very specific on who they choose to recruit, and have to give out snap bids each year. The interior of the house is super nice as well.

Sigma Kappa: I don’t hear much about this house, but most SKs I’ve met are pretty nice! Very philanthropy-based and do a lot for the community. They always go through informal, and take a diverse group into their pledge classes. The house itself is a little outdated, but has one of the better locations. They don’t really have a “reputation” if that makes sense, I would say SK is a good house for those looking for a more relaxed experience of being in a sorority, while still having a strong sisterhood.

Just some things to add: Alpha Chi Omega was on probation last fall for hazing
Gamma Phi Beta was on probation for having alcohol at bid day
Kappa Alpha Theta is very diverse and some of the sweetest girls
Kappa Kappa Gamma have a reputation for partying and drinking
Pi Beta Phi has the reputation of only going after girls with money. Also they are known for all having blonde hair and being tan (with very few exceptions)

Your descriptions are perfect!! I feel like a lot of the time people tend to steer away from any comments about pi phi but it must be said lol.... you seem totally unbiased and I couldn’t tell if you were in any of the sororities you described so great job!!! I agree with everything u said
