reality check

I've been reading all of the posts concerning rush week, and all of the "unfairness" of it. I'd like to give my perspective as a dad whose only daughter is going through the process. First off a little background. We are definitely not rich, and do not live in Kansas. So all of the posts that say you have to be rich, or you have to live in Kansas, I say that's just an excuse. I love my daughter and like many of you would do anything I could to protect her. However, during this process I felt that it was more important to be there if she needed me, and not steer her toward any particular sorority. Especially since she nor I have any real insight into the process. Although she does have a cousin in one of the sorority's alot of letter of recommendations she does not have. What she does have is a GPA of over 4.0, and does have a really great personality and a wicked sense of humour. One of the observations she has provided me is how "catty" some of the girls are. Not the sorority girls, but those that are trying to get into the sororities. I think she has an advantage in she didn't have friends with distractions who were also rushing. It was just her and she had to put herself out there. She was willing to listen to all of the sisters who had things to share about their sorority and was open to all. Here are the results of that. 2nd day, she was invited to 9 out of 10. 3rd day, she was invited to 6 out of 7. And today, it was 3 out of 3.

And this is why and how the process works. Even though some people find it "unfair" or that they have a disadvantage, none of that is true. It is a mutual process when selecting the right chapter to join. If you follow the rules and present yourself in a respected manor you will get the results you want. So to all the moms and dads and daughters out there all upset about your daughter not getting in maybe you should ask her why? GPA, did she not click with the girls she likes, was she rude, was she uninterested... what?

And good luck to your daughter sir! I hope she finds the perfect house for her!!
