rush
by: KUI'm from Ohio, and attending KU. Was wondering if someone could explain the rushing process for sororities? Things like letters of rec? Im from far away and don't know anyone that went to KU so I wouldn't have any rec letters. Which houses wouldn't consider me without a rec letter? And do we need to register for rush? Or do we just show up? How does it work?

Very few houses here take rec letters seriously, I know girls who had multiple rec letters for a house and didn't make it past the second round there. For some houses here, it's a lot of who you know, but not every house is like that! You can register for recruitment on KU Panhellenics website, the link usually opens in May or June and closes around early August

rec letters honestly don't matter that much at KU, but they're still good to have! You can get them from anyone who is an alum of the chapter from any school, they don't have to just be from KU alums! you mail those through the addresses on the KU Panhellenic website, or the alums will usually know what to do with them.
With the whole rush process, you just have to trust the process. The first couple of days you don't really have a say in where you end up going. You will rank them, but the ranking mostly comes from the houses. You don't really have a total say until pref, but they'll go over that more when you're rushing! Being from out of state definitely puts you at a disadvantage compared to KC girls who know upperclassmen in the top houses, but there are still plenty of girls who get bids from "top houses" they didn't have many connections to. There's nothing wrong with being in a middle or bottom house, it's just a good way to make friends!
You also register for rush through the KU Panhellenic website, which I think opens may or june and you have to do it by like august 1st I think!

I guarantee the majority of girls in middle and bottom houses are just as happy if not happier than girls in so-called top houses.
