sororities look for girls who will be academic, take on leadership roles, and represent the sorority well. They want to see that you can balance good grades, being involved, and being a good social representation of the sorority.

It is definitely who you know. The actives at the "top" houses already have a notebook and bulletin board of the pics and resumes of the girls they want to take. These are the women they rush. Everyone else, they are just polite to, at best. And because these are all their friends, they usually get everyone they want. A random few unknowns do get in but that's pretty rare. Ditto the joco comments above. The "top" houses are an extension of the joco high schools. If you are joining to make friends, don't go PiPhi, Kappa, Theta or GPhi. The other houses are better options. There are cliques in every house but you'll find it is less that way in the other houses.

Honesty recruitment is based off of who you know, but your resume has a HUGE influence in the decision making process. Don't worry about what house accepts what. Focus on being involved and having good conversations with the women during recruitment.
