recruitment anxiety

by: totally freaking out

hey! I'm gonna be a freshman at KU. And I was wondering what's going to happen each day when I actually go into each house? What are the conversations going to be about? What questions should I ask? What exactly happens during the pref round? Do I find out my sorority the night before or the day of?

Our Panhellenic post a bunch of videos a few years ago addressing a lot of these topics. Some of it might be out dated (like skits don't happen anymore) but they're a good starting point. YouTube is your friend.
Day one is a lot of short conversation. A lot of what's your major and where do you live. Try to have more meaningful convos or else this day will suck and last forever.
Day two is kinda the same but you will talk about community service some.
Day three is changing this year so who knows. Wing it.
Day four is pref. Each house does something different and rounds are longer. It can be an emotional day so tears may happen for both the PNMs and recruiters. Don't feel judged if you don't cry or do. This is day conversation are longer. If you want that house tell them. This is your last chance with the house. Pref day you will also rank your final top houses.
Be yourself. Find a house you can have a normal conversation at.
You find out your house on bid day. In the afternoon/morning.
All in all if I could give you advice it would be to go with the flow and be yourself. Everything works itself out.

Also, don't expect a house unless you have friends in the house already, The "top" houses are packed full of johnson county girls that go to the same high school. If you're not from the predominant high school forget it. There are RARE exceptions but that's just the way it is.

That's not true at all. Your just bitter about not getting into the house you wanted. I know lot's of girls in "top" houses and I would say nearly half are from outside of Johnson County.

It's maybe 5% out of state, tops, and even in most every instance, you still have to know someone (sister, friend of sister, etc)
