These people are either trying to scare you or had a bad rush and are still salty. I'm from out of state and didnt know a single person at KU and the three houses I went to on pref day were ones that "are hard to get into." Also no house predetermines their pledge class. Sure, they likely have a list of names of people they want and people they dont want (which you have to have a pretty freaking bad reputation to get on a blacklist) but no house plans ahead of who theyre getting. most of the power is in the pnms hands as long as you're sociable, somewhat cute, and have decent grades

There are some stunningly hot girls in middle/bottom houses, so not much unless you know someone

I would agree with the other out-of-state girl. I'm from out of state, came to KU knowing absolutely no one, and am not necessarily the prettiest girl ever in my opinion and had a full schedule every day as well as all "top houses" on pref day. I think the thing that really put me ahead of some of the other girls during rush were my resume, being myself, asking good questions that stuck out, as well as my letters of rec. Honestly, if you're going into rush worrying about not making it into a top house then you're going into it for the wrong reasons. You should be rushing to find girls that you fit in with, and if it's not in a "top house" then who cares!

girls that know absolutely no one when coming to KU are definitely at an advantage going through rush imo

The hardest to get into are the ones that you have to know someone. If you have friends in the house/from the same high school, it's not hard. That's why the above tend to be hard to get in to since most of their pledge class is pre-determined before rush. Those of you who claim "just be yourself you will get the right house" are full of bull. "Being yourself" has nothing to do with anything
