You go through all the rounds of recruitment and eventually you are left with (usually but not always) three sororities that invite you to their pref night, the last round of recruitment. Pref is serious because it indicates that the sororities that pref you want you in that sorority. You then rank the sororities who preffed you in order of which one you'd most like to join. Usually it works out and you get your first choice, but sometimes you can get your second or third choice. This is because all the sororities also rank the PNMs in order of who they'd most like in their new pledge class.
