how important are legacies at vt? could i still easily get cut if I'm a legacy? thanks

This is true. My mom and grandmother was a Delta Gamma and I didn't make it to preference round. I really think I was only invited back because of legacy.

It matters in certain sororities more than others. For tri delt I don't think it matters too too much, but you can check their legacy policy online!

Usually you get invited back to philanthropy. If you make it all the way to pref you could most likely get a bid.

Legacy definitely matters at some houses more than others, but I can't stress enough how important it is for you to make this decision based on what you feel and not other factors like legacy. I really wanted a certain house because my mom had been a sister there, but ended up getting a bid somewhere else. And I couldn't be happier where I am! Trust the process to put you in the right place, if the house where you're a legacy is the right fit, you'll end up there.
