Dropping top tier?

by:

Hi guys,

I rushed a couple of weeks ago and joined a top tier sorority, which got me super excited since they all also seemed so nice. Once I did join though, I noticed the girls were not as nice as they appeared during recruitment. We went out and they pretty much abandoned me, to the point that girls from another sorority were taking care of me (i drank beforehand thinking that my sisters would make sure I didn’t do anything stupid). I genuinely felt abandoned and sad. I had to ride home ALONE at like 3am while the girls I went with went to another party and forgot about me. My friends are saying to wait it out and see if I like them later, but I don’t want to pay dues if they’re gonna treat me like nothing. Advice?

I’ve had several friends in top tiers have this same experience. Based on them, it only gets worse so definitely make up your mind before you’re initiated

Do you know if any of them dropped? I feel like I will be blacklisted if i do.

you won’t be blacklisted from other sororities, but your current sorority will probably not offer you another bid next year.

This is terrible! Do you have anyone in the sorority that you are close with that you can talk to?

Not really, I haven’t met many of the girls since the only way to see them is at parties and I’m not comfortable going to a bunch of parties!

If you drop now you might have time to rush another chapter at informal...

If you're going to drop, make your mind up before big/lit if you can. I'm so so sorry this happened to you, no newg should have that experience. There are plenty of chapters here that would probably offer you a bud if you dropped. Ofc I can't promise a bid, but you wouldn't be blacklisted by every other chapter.

Give it one more chance and if you don’t have a better experience next time, I recommend dropping

This is horrible. You should drop if you are sad but just realize that since you signed the MRABA, you will have to wait a year to be able to get another bid from another sorority.

I am so sorry this happened to you, but it is not a "top" tier thing. It happens across the board! My friend had a similar experience in a "lower" tier house. Sororities are big, and the girls are very diverse. You went out with a few. There are plenty of others in the chapter to hang with. Unfortunately, you will find girls like that in any house you pledge.

I understand that. I just feel like my own sorority sisters who just happen to be a part of a top tier sorority are being more rude to me than girls from maybe a bottom tier sorority. Like the girls that I talked to during recruitment from those sororities have talked to me more since then compared to my own sorority sisters that i spoke to. I just feel like they were being fake.

I am sorry this happened to you, but trust me, this does not just happen in top tier houses.Give them another shot.

Smells like Alpha Phi! I’d drop. And: everyone should avoid the informal they have going on right now LOL

Sheesh relax, it’s not just alpha phi, this goes on with all top tier sororities because more genuine sisterhood is found in lower tiers
