You’ll have a lesser chance of getting a bid period of you suicide bid. Whether it’s from your top choice or not

It’s based off how everyone ranks but basically your less likely to get your top choice if you suicide bid because your not maximizing your options. Just put both and you’ll have a better chance of getting what you want, no harm in doing it

It’s when instead of ranking your final two in order of preference, you only put one of them down and are dropped from the process if they don’t give you a bid.

Don’t do it. There’s a reason you’re told not to. I know in my chapter we’re actually more likely to pick someone else than a suicide bid. If they actually like you, they will give you a bid.

Chapters don’t know if you suicide bid!

Yes: chapters won’t exactly know if you suicided, however, your chances of getting the house you want do go down for whatever reason AND your chances of getting a snap bid if you don’t get a bid go down. Do the regular process then drop later if you don’t vibe!

Don’t do it. My best advice to to make sure they know they’re ur top choice and that’s absolutely where you want to be. You’re more likely to be higher on their bid list if they know you 100% want them.

A girl I know suicide bid last year and got a bid but I’m scared. I’m between theta and axo going into pref round and don’t really see myself in theta

If you have two houses left but suicide (only put one house on your bid card) and that house did not rank you high enough on their bid list, you don’t get a bid. Then because you suicided instead of maximizing your options (putting 2 houses on your bid card), you are ineligible for a bid through quota additions, which happen at the end of the bid matching process. Quota additions make sure that all girls who maximized their option get a bid if they are still unmatched at the end of the process. This is why suiciding is so risky, and you are advised not to do it.

A Quota Addition is a PNM who otherwise would not have gotten a bid, and will be matched to a chapter she has listed on her pref round rankings AS LONG AS HER NAME APPEARS ON THEIR PREFERENTIAL BID LIST (AKA they wanted to extend her a bid). So Suzy ranks after pref round: 1. Sorority ABC 2. Sorority XYZ, meaning she would prefer to get a bid from sorority ABC, but if XYZ extends her a bid she would accept it as well. The sororities turn in their preferential lists, the list of girls they would like to extend bids to. The list is bigger than what quota is because not everyone on their list will have ranked them as number 1. So let's say quota is 100, the first 100 girls on that list are the chapters' ideal pledge classes.
Anyone after those 100 they would only get extended a bid if any of the first 100 ranked another chapter as their number 1 and got a bid from them or if anyone dropped out after ranking chapters at preference round. So Suzy is on both of ABC and XYZ's lists, but further down. Both sororities have reached quota before getting to Suzy
Suzy will not go bidless though! She MAXIMIZED HER OPTIONS, and now she will become a quota addition to one of the chapters since BOTH of them would have extended her a bid. The preferred method is to match the PNM with her #1 choice since she trusted the system and maximized her options, but the bid match team keeps a close eye on how large each house's pledge class is getting.
