rushing as a poc

I signed up for this year's recruitment process but have been having some worries about getting selected. I don't consider myself "pretty" when compared to the other girls I've seen who plan to rush, and I already feel left out when I'm talking to other potential new members. I've spoken to some girls who are in sorority's and they try to convince me that I shouldn't worry even though I'm a POC, but their arguments don't help my concerns.

So honestly, should I even bother rushing? I really want to join a sorority for the friendships and connections you make, and I wouldn't care even if I was one of the only POC's in the whole sorority if I make one. I know my chances may be hindered by being a POC, but do POC's even have a chance at all?

YES RUSH!! recruitment is not a beauty pageant/ popularity contest and those that make it that are going to end up dropping or end up in the wrong sorority and become unhappy. As a woman in a sorority, sororities lack diversity I’ll admit but that is not because they do not want diversity that is just reflective of the demographics for that recruitment year. You will find a sorority that aligns with your values and wants you for you! That is what we want when looking for potential members. Rush, girlfriend! Keep an open mind and stay true to you and you will find your home!

Well if you’re already registered you might as well so that you don’t waste the recruitment fee you paid

Just keep your expectations low. As much as some say this isn’t a beauty contest, it kinda is. In my experience, the ‘lower’ tier houses are not as picky as ‘upper’ tier. If your grades are good, it will help. There is a post on this site that talks about “know before you go.” Read that and the comments. It might help you. Good luck with whatever you decide.
