low gpa
by: nervousJust curious and looking for some honesty... I have signed up for recruitment but my first semester in college did not turn out in my favor with GPA, it's good enough that I am not on academic probation but also very low; I a trying to get into a grad school later in life and plan to strap down the rest of my time here. Is GPA a huge deal breaker with the sororities, or is there still a chance I could get a bid if I do everything else correct?

i hate to break it to you, but GPA is the first thing that sororities cut for. if you have a less than stellar GPA, you likely will not get many houses back after open house. that's not to say that you wont be able to join anywhere, but your options will definitely be limited. it doesnt matter if youre a legacy, youre the prettiest girl at Virginia Tech, youre funny, sweet, and have 18 recommendation letters, GPA is a huge thing and most sororities will not overlook a low GPA even if you "do everything else correct"

if it is over a 3.0 you should be fine, if it is below that (2.6-2.9) i think you'll have limited options (you'll get cut by a lot of houses after open house) but you should be able to join somewhere, if it is 2.5 or below you probably wont get a bid anywhere. not trying to be rude but like the above poster said, GPA is the first thing houses cut for.

im speaking from personal experience! i went through recruitment last year with a bad gpa and i was dropped immediately by all but 4 houses, and ended up dropping out of recruitment
