Pledging should be hard
by: FratsPNMs, many fraternities are going to try and tell you not to join other frats because the pledging is too hard. Please do not buy into this. Pledging is an integral part of being in a frat, and there’s a reason frats like SigEP are irrelevant; they don’t pledge. Pledging helps you create a bond like no other, and helps your mature and grow. Frats with easy pledge processes are betas. A good pledge process separates the boys from the men, and any frat that’s any sort of relevant has a good pledge process.

Okay but you do realize that the psychological damage people often get from hazing is absolutely not worth the potential bonds they gain from pledging? People can build bonds without being put in serious danger. Exploiting human beings for the sake of being in a fraternity is simply not okay. This is not that hard to understand.

SigEp's Balanced Man Program is a MORE challenging experience than just pledging. While brothers have the right to membership the day they join, it comes with many responsibilities. Brothers are engaged their entire time in the chapter, not just the first few weeks. If brothers do not meet their expectations in each challenge, their membership is lapsed. Furthermore, the Balanced Man Program challenges brothers to provide the best fraternity experience, regardless of what the rest of UCONN is doing. SigEp recruits the best men, because it takes self-confidence to not care what other fraternities are saying about you.
