why do frats care about sorority relations?

Why do fraternities strive to improve sorority relations when they're pretty a pretty terrible group of girls to pull from? By terrible I mean: brainwashed, cliquey, superficial, followers. Sure there's some leaders...but not many.
I'm in a fraternity that's throws a lot of smaller events/interdates with another sorority...but I just don't get it. The best girls on campus I've met were GDIs....
