rushing as a soph

by:

So I'm thinking about transferring to CU in the fall and I was wondering how hard it is to join a sorority as a sophomore?

Harder but very doable

As a sophomore transfer, will a really good GPA help me? I don't know girls in houses so I'll be relying on my GPA and conversations during rush week. Honestly, how much of a chance do I have?

A good gpa can only help you and like the person said before me... its going to be harder but still very doable. Good luck!

It honestly depends on the house! There are houses that automatically cut sophomores because they are only interested in freshmen that will pay dues for 4 years. (alpha phi and chi o) but as a sophomore rush, I guarantee that you will find a house that works for you! To lots of houses, your convos are the most important thing not your GPA

To be honest, you can rush as a sophomore and get in to axo or ddd and you probably don't want to be in either of those. Each house has to take sophomores but the number is very very low, two or three, and those spots almost always go to girls that are good friends with people in the houses. My advice is that you rush, it really is a great way to meet people! If when you get your pref schedule you have a house you really want to be there go to pref, if you only get houses you absolutely do not want to be in then drop. If on bid day you get a bid from a house you know you do not want DO NOT GO TO THAT HOUSES BID DAY. Whatever you do, do NOT accept a bid to a house you don't want because then you have to wait a year to rush again and juniors are basically the elephant man of PNMs. If you drop or don't accept your bid you are still eligible for a COB. Panel makes mistakes and sometimes for certain reasons (a combination it gpa and grade) you won't get a bid to a house that wants you. Houses can extend you a COB days after fall rush depending on how things shake out. I would advise you to heed my words and talk to someone at your current school who can explain to you in more details the plan I laid out. Good luck!

Don't tell girls what house they do or don't want. She might like axo or ddd, it's her choice, not yours. Go through recruitment, keep an open mind, and if you absolutely feel like you can't handle the house that gave you a bid, sure, don't go to their bid day. But keep an open mind, every house has a lot to offer. Don't listen to reputations because they are all outdated. Join the house you feel the most at home at.

The other replier is totally a ddd or tri delt. If this girl loves one of those houses great! But buffs advice is sound even if the word choice isn't all PC. I have seen sophomores end up heart broken because they don't understand the way bids are given out or that COB is an option. I don't think any girl, especially a sophomore, should accept a bid to a house they really don't want because of that year hold on accepting a bid to a different house. I know other people will argue that you should give that house a chance but sophomores don't have the luxury of time that freshmen do! If a sophomore gets the year penalty the chances of joining a house as a junior are literally tiny. Take buffs commentary with a grain of salt but the advice is sound.

Don't listen to Buff. Other replier is right you might end up liking a house like tri delt or axo and that's fine. Also even if you get a bid to a house you don't want and don't go to their bid day you are still going to have to wait an entire year to go through recruitment. I'd say just go all the way through recruitment and join the house you get a bid from, like 99% of the time you end up with a bid from the house that you fit into the most. And If you do really care about rankings you really only end up in the house/tier you belong in or one in a higher rank but never a house "lower" than you should be.
