advice: low house or none?
by: confused asf
I’m a sophomore here at cu. I went through formal recruitment last sem, but had a low gpa (that’s on me) and got dropped from both top and bottom houses right before pref. i didn’t get a bid from my top choices for cob, but does rank actually matter here? would it be better for me to join a mid-low or bottom house than just not join at all? do you still get bands and stuff in the mid houses? are the frats mean to girls that arnt top 3? why do you never see girls wearing their lower houses merch on campus?
love to hear everyone’s thoughts

1. Rank does not matter here, despite what this website and others may want you to believe
2. If you feel you are missing out on something, then yes it is worth it to join a bottom tier house, as odds are you will find something valuable in it.
3. There aren’t a ton of banded events anyhow (compared to other schools) but really it comes down to who you know
4. Some are mean to girls not in the top three but usually not to their face
5. Tbh I personally see girls in all chapters wearing merch on campus
Hope this helps :)

tbh your experience is going to be basically the same in any of the top or mid tier houses. boulder isn't like other schools where people care about ranks. girls in top houses date guys in lower frats and girls in lower houses date guys in upper frats. nobody here really cares what house you are in

hey hey- in a mid/low house, i don’t wear my merch bc most of the stuff i has is for the summer but i ordered some stuff recently :)
my pref night was a top 3 and a bottom house, i found my home regardless of what that meant to my status but i promise you mfs don’t care and if they do they prob have a 1.9 gpa, haven’t paid their dues, and are hated even at their own house.

i was a rho gam and we literally saw every possible combination last year. i was suprised when girls in my group chose mid or lower houses over so-called top houses but then again this is Boulder! being in a top house here doesn’t have the status that it might on another campus. just go where you want and i promise you’ll be happy.

honestly, thank you so much for this. i think it’s hard for you to find honest opinions because of how “political” it seemed for the outside and how nasty people can get online. i transferred freshman year and it was hard to get a real answer from people i wasn’t super close with. so thank you :)
