A message to CU Panhellenic
by: jadedgirl
I, like many many girls this fall was left absolutely heartbroken by this year's fall rush.
I put my heart and soul into being in a sorority and was sorely disappointed. I understand that there were simply not enough space for everyone and thats fine.
I urge you to please learn from your mistakes and to cap the amount of girls allowed to sign up for rush. Yes, people will get dropped and will drop thats part of the process but if you are going to promise that everyone will find where they belong you need to play your part as well.
if there are 9 houses and room for around 150 girls per PC, you cannot allow almost 2000 girls to rush, you need to put a cap on it. ESPECIALLY now that Rush is more popular and Prime put us on the map.
Please, for the sake of the girls that come after me, limit how many girls can sign up.

I agree. Something needs to change. Panhellenic was so unorganized last year. The website has conflicting and old information. The rush guide was a joke with old information, formatting issues, and so many typos it’s embarrassing. Why do they need to keep registration open until the day rush starts when they could cut it off in July like Bama does. Between letting in more freshman than space in dorms and way too many girls going through rush, this past year has been a mess. I feel sorry for next years freshman because it’s only going to get worse.

Agree with all of this, but girls also have to be willing to keep their options open. Too many girls dropped completely after they got dropped by aphi or pi phi. TBH-rush at CU is super competitive. You may be the most popular girl at your hs and come to Boulder and be shocked when YOU aren’t invited back to the house you loved. Too many girls missed out and the entire sorority experience because they thought they were too good for a certain house. There are gorgeous girls in every house (even tri-delt). ❤️

Until every house including tri delta is at capacity nothing will be done to cut recruitment numbers.
Phi mu came and failed cause of the idea that girls are “too good” for certain chapters. So I’m sorry you didn’t get the houses you wanted, but it’s time the attitude changed rather than blaming panhel.

Seconding. CU Panhel is a dumpster fire and their work on fall rush was DISGRACEFUL. once you get into 2000ish girls rushing but 9 houses, you’re going to get crazy cuts and MANY girls getting completely dropped just because of bad luck and many girls getting through ONLY because of good luck.
Also to everyone in the comments saying that girls dropping after not getting a house their mind was set on was a primary reason fall rush was a disaster…. were you even in boco during fall rush this year?
some girls got a normal sorority recruitment experience JUST because they had 4-5 or more houses the first day. Many many girls got dropped or just 1 or 2 houses- not due to there being legit reasons for that, but JUST because of luck and how the numbers worked out for that very first in person datebook.
And some houses on this campus do have extremely weak recruiting. there’s a reason that girls that got just one house dropped, and the majority of the time girls are not so shallow that they drop recruitment because they think they’re “too good” for one house. It’s often because they had a genuinely bad experience, because as I just said, there is a lot of work to be done on recruitment for some houses in particular to make PNMs feel welcome, celebrated, and like they’re being meaningfully engaged with. some houses do that a lot better than others and some houses are also inconsistent.

it sucks not getting invited back to the houses you want, but it’s not entirely panhels fault and highlights the bigger issue. the only way panhel would ever consider closing recruitment early if all chapters met quota, and if all chapters were meeting quota they would probably opt to add another house vs. closing registration early. i’m not saying panhel wasn’t disorganized last year, but these are the facts. if there were “too many girls” phi mu would still be on campus and wouldn’t have been shut down for low numbers.
it won’t happen, but if every pnm was open minded and stuck with recruitment, every house would have their best pc in history. and if that happened, i genuinely think each house would have a HUGE pc because pledge class size is averaged. when some houses have smaller pcs it brings down the number the other houses can have… there IS a place for everyone in greek life, but not everyone wants the spot they’re offered and when too many girls drop, the numbers get weird and it can mess things up.

Good point. I guess ppl can't complain that much when we have at least one house that didn't make quota.
