what’s up with CU Panhellenic?

by:

I am starting to feel like cu panhel is really disorganized. I still can’t figure out how so many girls didn’t receive bids this year (?) Was quota set wrong or what? I went to panhel’s website and a lot of the info on there hasn’t been updated since 2020. I know they post on Insta, but how do you still have info from 2020 on your website? Like literally every other CU website is up to date except Boulder Panhellenic. 🙄

they were dealt a challenging situation (record number of PNMs, down one house) and fumbled HARD.
not only did many PNMs get dropped/drop from recruitment but from a logistical standpoint, it was a complete trainwreck.
Zoom calls started and running crazy late, conflicting info on COB/MRABA that is yet to be clarified (on the pref night zoom call they kept saying stuff that DIRECTLY contradicted what the MRABA said about that), technical difficulties and misspellings galore, terrible communication about everything (esp event times, dress codes, rush rules), no clear guide or reference for how to use ICS (led to some PNMs accidentally ranking wrong or not ranking at all), the pre bid day release calls didn’t even START going out by the time they said they’d be finished (giving tons of PNMs false relief), absolutely terrible greek buffs guide (misspellings, typos, weird formatting, inconsistencies, lack of helpful info & clarity, and most of all almost NOBODY knew about the guide in the first place because it was never printed and barely mentioned to the poor PNMs!), not to mention that their website is crazy outdated and difficult to navigate.

the houses and PNMs put so much time and energy into rush and you can tell it! but based panhel’s performance this rush, it looks like those in charge of fall recruitment cut corners and didn’t give the process the time and effort it NEEDS. shame.

100% agree. So glad the chapters were able to piece it all together. Ik that turnout was much greater than expected, but there is no excuse for all of the mistakes and miscommunications on the part of panhel. They should have either capped registration or increased quota. No hate, but this was an epic fail and a really bad look for CU greeklife!

I didn’t even know there was an updated Greek Buffs Guide. I found one from last year and just used it lol

I agree 100% with everything you have said. Is there a way to give this feedback to someone who actually cares and will make improvements for next year? The number of pnm’s will only go up next year with all of the national attention CU is getting this year with Prime.

i would think that panhel is painfully aware of these issues, but in the event they are not, I think it would be beneficial to reach out directly to cu panhel regarding these concerns

Let me explain:

If you attend 2 prefs and list them both on the MRABA you will receive a bid from one of those sororities.

If you attend one pref and list that sorority on your MRABA, you will receive a bid.

If you SIP, you will receive a bid as long as your names appears on that sorority’s bid list at or before they reach quota. If your name appears after quota, you will not match, but could be picked up via quota additions or COB, but those chances are verysmall. You can participate in COB and spring recruitment.

If you sign the MRABA and get a bid and then drop the sorority BEFORE you are initiated, you would not be able to participate in COB or spring recruitment, but you can rush again the next fall formal recruitment.

If you receive a bid and become an initiated member and then drop, you may not join another NPC sorority ever.

Sorry. Forgot to address quota. Quota is set after MRABAs are signed and basically it is the number of sororities divided by the number of PNMs signing MRABAs. So if a PNM stayed in and attended 2 pref parties, or even if she just was invited to and attended one pref, she would have a bid. If a bunch of girls are saying they didn’t get a bid, they probably dropped out when their favorite houses dropped them.

@oh wow. Sorry-still confused, based on what was said above, anyone that attended pref night got a bid? Isn’t that suiciding/SIP?

“If you attend one pref and list that sorority on your MRABA, you will receive a bid.”

@still confused - I think what @oh wow! meant is that if a pnm was only invited back to one house for pref, and they put that house down, then they should get a bid.

@nope - do you mean you know girls that maximized their options by putting both pref houses down (ie did NOT SIP/suicide) and still got cut? That shouldn't happen according to the CU panhel website.

This lack of clarity is so confusing! I really hope they fix this for next year

@?? so the only ones that should have got a call on bid day saying they were released were the girls that suicided and didn’t get a bid?

@still confused - yes, that is my understanding however it appears that there could be instances where girls who maximized their options (put both houses down, or if they only had one house to pref, put that house down) and still did not get a bid. That is not supposed to happen according to panhel, but if it did then things are even more messed up than I thought. I'm not personally aware of anyone that happened to, but I do know several girls who SIP/Suicided and got cut.

@?? there should not be any instances where girls who went to 2 parties and ranked both did not get a bid. they'll either get their top choice, get their second choice, or be a quota addition for their top choice. the only way a girl would not get a bid is by suiciding

So if u suicided and signed the MRABA but got dropped after pref when can you go thru recruitment again and do you have to go back to the houses that dropped u inc. where u pref’d?

see above:

“ If you attend 2 prefs and list them both on the MRABA you will receive a bid from one of those sororities.

If you attend one pref and list that sorority on your MRABA, you will receive a bid.”

This is not correct b/c girls got calls late on bid day notifying them that they didn’t receive a bid from the house(s) they pref’d.

By: nope
by: Oh Wow!!

Yes @??, invited to one pref only, attended that pref, signed MRABA, gets a bid to that sorority. Sorry for not being clear and thank you for clarifying.

@Nope, are you sure that these girls who allegedly did not get bids didn’t drop out when they saw who had invited them to pref? Or attended pref and then withdrew? If it is a case where the girls attended their prefs, and listed both sororities ( or invited to one and listed that one) on the MRABA, if Colorado is following the NPC RFM guidelines, then those girls should each have a bid-could be to the sorority they listed second on the MRABA, but they would have a bid.. If that’s not the case, it should be brought to the attention of the NPC area director. If the Greek Life advisor won’t do it, then have one of your chapter advisors contact their national NPC rep and let her contact the area NPC rep.

i just googled “CU Boulder Panhellenic” and it brings up a picture of the former President. Website is not being maintained and probably not the best source of information.

by: yep

That's the other issue! there are 2 panhel websites from what I can tell. There is another one that is updated with this years info, but it's still pretty bad

any girl that accepted a bid and then dropped is going to have a hard time going through recruitment as a sophomore. There are already so many cute girls that want to come to CU next year and houses will almost alway take a freshman over a sophomore. I wish the girls that are dropping would have given it a couple more weeks 😞

if you dropped out of recruitment this fall there’s a good chance that you missed your chance at ever being in a sorority. cob and rushing as a sophomore aren’t the best scenarios
