thoughts on suiciding

What are everyone’s thoughts on suiciding? I know the house I want, but I also don’t want to risk not getting a bid anywhere! 😬

I just posted on the other thread but I am really considering suicide bidding if I get my top house and another. Everyone says to trust the process but I really just don’t see myself in the houses I have left besides my top one and think I would rather try to get a snap bid if they do those or COB in the spring if I don’t get my top for pref.

I’m know we are supposed to keep our options open, but I’m thinking the same

Tri Delt (and use to be Phi Mu rip) will be the only house to do snap bids heads up. Snap bids are used to fill a bid list and all the other houses fill theirs so doubt count on that. COB could be an option tho and houses usually pull from girls they talked to during primary to meet quota so stick it out as long as you can if you want that option

I just feel like I will be really sad on bid day if I do this and don’t end up getting a bid 😞

i don't think i'm gonna suicide just because my second choice isn't bad or anything i just didnt click, but i want to try and see if i fit in there if i don't get my top so i can at least see if the sorority experience is right for me. fingers crossed that i go home to pi phi tomorrow tho

I would not suggest suiciding, especially if holding out for pi phi.

Not that pi phi isn’t a good house, but it’s risky. Well over half its new member class last year were from california. Between that and being the “top house” they can easily fill their New Member class with girls they already know/identified, even before rush begins. It’s not fair, but it’s the reality.

It’s not a guarantee it won’t work out for you but the chances are difficult (unless from california or have a lot of links to actives in the house). And you would be missing out of trying a house that might be the perfect place.

Side note - if you are a pi phi legacy and pref at pi phi, you are automatically moved to the top of their bid list, and almost guaranteed a bid. So if that is the case, you don’t need to worry, it will work out.

Either way, I suggest ranking and giving any house a chance. You don’t need to be in a house at CU to have a good college experience and you could always rush the following year if it didn’t work out.

Good luck!

@TwoCents - unless the colorado alpha chapter of pi phi goes against nationals rules, then legacy status does not move a pnm up the bid list at pref or any other time. That used to be the case, but pi phi nationals voted on this in 2021.

i can verify what the pi phi alum said. I pref’d pi phi and got dropped and my sister had been a member of CO Alpha. I was devastated at the time but it all worked out ‘cause I love my house! 💕

i wouldn’t suicide, not sure if matching has changed since i was a basement girly, but in the past the matching algorithm can bump you lower down the list if you suicide than if you submit ranked preference of two different houses. you may put yourself at more of a risk of not being above the cutoff line for your house of choice.

I wouldn’t advise suiciding either. Recruitment is very competitive this year. Talk to your Rho Gam seriously. It will be very sad if you are sitting in your dorm in bid day while all your friends are at their new houses 😞
