PC '27 questions

by:

hi guys, I'm rushing in the fall as a freshmen and I have some questions that I would like some honest anon answers to if thats okay.

1. is it true that the top houses already have their girls picked out?

2. what do top houses look for, bc I feel like I have the look but what kind of personality?

3. hypothetically if I get a dirty rush invite what do I do? bc I feel like rejecting the offer would hurt my chances with a house that I want.

4. I should probably lose as much weight as possible right?

5. Should I get a letter of rec for pi phi even though they say they dont look at them?

6. besides the rule of B's, what else is a secret no no?

7. will my clothes have a large effect on who picks me?

8. what's an insider tip that you shouldn't say but you're going to bc I seem very sweet and you'd like to help me?

1. For the most part yes, but they also find room during rush for girls that hadn’t been on the radar before that so I wouldn’t be worried

2. If looks is your main focus, you’re going about this all wrong. Just be authentic because any girl rushing you will see right through a fake personality and you’ll end up exactly where you’re supposed to be

3. Hard question but dirty rush invited aren’t super common just more lowkey hints that they’re probably going to give you a bud. If you’re caught being dirty rushed you could be blacklisted from rush entirely which wouldn’t be fun. Try not to give any definitive answers on a house you would want until pref

4. No. Boulder sororities aren’t that shallow. There’s plenty of girls with different body types in every house, and no house is going to either keep you or cut you solely based on your weight

5. If you have easy access to one, yes. If not, don’t worry too much about it, it would help more to just know active members and have a pre existing relationship with them then a letter of rec would

6. Don’t be fake, don’t reach out to sisters during recruitment, don’t talk badly about any houses before/during recruitment, just have regular conversations like a regular person

7. Try to dress in what you know looks good on you and what you feel confident in, a girl complimenting your outfit could lead to a super good conversation at a house that you wouldn’t have had otherwise.

8. Relax you seem way too wound up about this

My biggest advice for you would be too go into rush with an open mind. There really isn’t that big of a difference between the houses and ranks don’t really mean anything at all. All sorority’s are going to have formals, mixers, socials etc. if you go into rush only wanting the so called “top houses” all you will be is disappointed. Find girls and a house that fits your vibe and personality. Also at Boulder you don’t need to be in a specific sorority or even one at all to get into certain parties or anything so there’s really nothing you’re missing out on in a top house.

U don’t have to lose weight but don’t expect to get into pi phi and aphi if you’re not underweight

You can look at a house’s instas and tell pretty quick who will or won’t take bigger girls. It’s not like SEC schools where they look at the whole package (grades, involvement, character, etc). Girls in the South can get in a top house even if they aren’t skinny: Not the case in Boulder. You can be hot, thin, wealthy, but a grade/standards risk and still get into a top house.

it literally doesn’t matter if you get into a “top” house, go into rush with a better attitude and try to leave the high school popularity contest mindset behind. you will be sooo much happier i promise

Every sorority has its own personality focus on where you fit in the best. If you’re joining a sorority just for status you can definitely do that and that’s a completely valid experience. There are certain luxuries to each house and certain pitfalls. I recommend joining a house based on where you laugh, I have met all my best friends from my sorority and I’m super close to my whole family (big, littles, g littles). In terms of recruitment I highly recommend being interested in leadership positions and being on board to live in the house. Wear something sentimental or interesting that can be used in conversation.

I am a senior this year, and I can honestly say that I hang out with girls from other houses as much as I hang out with girls from my own house. Ranks literally do not matter in Boulder.
