Is Greek life “mandatory”
by: FreshmanI’m coming in the fall and I’m wondering how prominent Greek life is. Do I need to join a sorority to have a good social life ? Do guys care if you aren’t in a top sorority? Is it hard to get into a good house? Can someone give me a run down on how Greek life is there?

Boulder’s Greek life is kind of whack. A lot of the “top houses” have been on top for a long time but honestly nobody really cares about the “best” or “worst” houses. If anyone judges you off of who you’re with because you like the people, that’s someone you shouldn’t want to be around in the first place. A lot of cliques form in Greek life and it’s all about the consistent popularity that’s existed here which is why some people are only friends with X while others are only friends with Y (if that makes sense). This is another reason most of the people unaffiliated with Greek life find Greeks to be annoying. As much as people want to say “they envy us”, it’s the latter. Definitely rush and see if you find people you like, but don’t join a place because it’ll give you status or the clout, trust me, you’ll probably hate it and end up realizing you didn’t make as many friends as you wanted to. If you join a place because you like the people, it’s super easy to make friends and have a great time. Greek life is almost necessary for guys tbh because girls can get into any party they want whereas guys are 98% of the time getting stopped at the door. This is just me being honest. If I had this knowledge before, I definitely would’ve looked at the other srats a lot more before making a decision. Hope this helps

For girls it’s definitely not necessary to join a sorority and you can have a great time and meet cool people without it but joining is a super easy way to get big groups of friends and meet people that aren’t just in your grade as well as have things to do every week like date dashes and fun events. It also makes it easier to not have to stick with your freshman year friends forever because each year you get introduced to new peoples For guys it’s kinda necessary

agreed for guys it’s necessary but for girls you get basically the same experience no matter what sorority your in. and for girls not in greek life you’ll still go to any parties and have a great experience, you just might be more limited due to events the sorority holds.
