why do people care about ranking?

Why does rank matter and who cares about it? Will it matter when I rush?

Instagram followers, money, hotness, etc
Only freshman care about ranks. It seems scary and important when you’re rushing but once you find your house and your friend group you realize that ranks will be insignificant
