SigEp's substance-free chapter facility is a differentiating factor. When explained properly, that differentiating factor is often a competitive advantage in recruitment. According to a recent study, the vast
majority of students entering college today do not want to join Greek life. In other words, harmful stereotypes about fraternities as drinking clubs harm recruitment, and a differentiating factor can be a huge competitive advantage -- and an opportunity to talk about what SigEp focuses on.

Honestly this shouldn't change much about SigEp. The purpose of a SigEp chapter is to find men who share the Fraternity’s principles and to develop them into Balanced Men who will be the next generation of values-based leaders. Drinking really plays no role in that mission, and frankly, data from higher education researchers shows that it actively works against a chapter's ability to do so.

The refinement of these crucial skills helps SigEp brothers succeed upon graduation and prepares them to achieve balance and satisfaction in every aspect of their lives.

When the Balanced Man Program is properly executed it perfectly aligns with year-round recruitment. Self-paced challenges allow for members to enter and exit challenges at their own pace. Let's say a member is recruited in January. Other members in the Sigma challenge have already completed three of the eight Sigma Challenge meetings. The new member can join the rest of the members in the Sigma challenge for the remaining five meetings. Then he can attend the first three meetings the next semester.
