so i think i made a mistake

Well if you aren't actually from the south we very well might. I'm not in a house here, but I'll be transferring as a sophomore so I was thinking about rushing at my new school. And since I go to a state school i just feel left out, like everyone has family and connections and I don't, which wouldn't bother me if i felt like I fit in culturally but I just can't do the "southern" thing if you know what I'm saying. I didn't like that my school was in the middle of nowhere and dependant on greek life for a social life, and it wasn't a very good school for my major at all. It just all seemed very preachy and judgy, which I didn't like. And our tailgates were pathetic. Hope that helps lol and I wish you the best!

Well I only have experience with my school, which was a large state school and probably very different than smaller southern schools like Wake or Emory, but depending on who you are I don't recommend it at all. I think it's easier for guys to move down south than girls, who kind of have to face a very judgy culture that just seems pointless to me. It's all about hooking up with guys from the 'right cities' and being in the 'right sorority' or organization, and when it comes to greek life your hometown/recs/legacy could end up being much more important than your personality. There's still a lot of pressure to be 'classy' and a lot of S.lut shaming from people whose actions are just as bad. There's definitely some positives, like all the school spirit and cute little downtown areas that a lot of southern schools have, but a lot of girls get caught up in the idea of going south without realizing that they may be immediately barred from a lot of groups (not just sororities) on campus because they don't have the right connections, especially at schools where 70%+ of the student body is from the same state. Of course you may find a school with a different environment, especially if it's smaller, but this is my general observation from going to a state school and talking to people from others. I don't, I'm actually on this page because I'm thinking of transferring to CU! I don't mean to make it sound overly negative because there's definitely good aspects to big southern schools, but I think those are what most Yankees (yes they really use that word) already know and they aren't prepared for the culture shock/ preachiness of the campus. For me personally it's been ok, I have some great friends and go out a lot but I just hate being in the middle of nowhere where nothing is really going on if there isn't a football game.
