today is bid day! please read!

Bid day is finally here and I'm sure I speak for every house when I say we are all so happy to welcome you! That being said, PLEASE, if you open that bid card and see a house you were not hoping for give the house a chance and try to attend that houses bid day celebration. I have seen so many sad faces on bid day through the years, it breaks our hearts to see you girls upset because you are all wonderful girls and we want people like you in this community. I know it can be extremely dissapointing when you don't see the letters you were hoping for on that card, it can be devastating even. Just remember everything happens for a reason! Maybe you won't end up loving your house, maybe you will end up dropping and rushing again next year. But, maybe you will find that your new house is your true home! Attending bid day as a new member is a truly wonderful experience and will rank among the best days of your life. So even if you don't see the house you were wishing for, give bid day a chance! Believe me, you will regret not attending down the road.

Great job to all the houses this year and happy bid day everyone!

The fact that you even have to write a post like this should say something about the whole rush process. It's broken! I saw a ton of upset women on Pref night and Bid day. The number of rushers was huge this year, but something is off - there were just too many upset women on campus this week. So what were the drop rates? What are the numbers from Pahel? How many great leaders, sisters and lasting friendships - didn't happen this fall rush? I am incredibly happy for the pnm's that found the perfect fit! They will have an amazing experience for sure. But like you said, its heart breaking to see all the others that didn't get what they expected or dropped. Dropping quota for the sake of smaller houses only makes the entire Greek system suffer. The fact that houses are reluctant to take Sophmore's because of the way quota is set is also a sign of a faulty process. We should never have to ask young women to "give it a chance" or as implied, "to settle". Together we make our Greek system stronger and I feel like this year we did a lot of women a dis service. I just hope they'll come back and not be Greek-haters.
