gpa requirements
by: Confused FreshmanI plan on rushing a sorority this incoming fall and I am concerned about my GPA. I have a solid 3.0 (is this considered a low GPA?). Do we have a college semester to improve our GPA? How does this all work?

Unfortunately, yes. If you have a 3.3 or below most houses will drop you on the first day of recruitment. However, there is an exception with some houses that if they really like you, they are allowed to take 20-30 girls that do not make their GPA requirement.
You don't have a college semester to improve your GPA as formal recruitment happens in the beginning of the fall semester. However, if you do get dropped from houses because of your GPA, you can rush again in the spring. The only downfall is that spring rush is nothing like recruitment. You won't get a feel for all of the houses that are a part of the greek community, and you may not reach your full potential as not all of the houses participate in spring rush.
You also would have to work very hard your first semester in order to receive a good college GPA that would deem you eligible for spring rush.

Also, I just want to note that not all houses can take 20-30 grade risks. I know that DG and Chi O take way fewer than that and Pi Phi can only offer bids to less than 10 this year.
