sending a letter to rush chairs

Is it acceptable to send an email to a fraternity rush chair trying to get info about the chapter and scheduling a time to visit the house before rush starts since we'll be at school well before formal rush begins? Or is that considered a bad move going into rush?

Never a bad call, it shows you are interested in the chapter and will make you stand out amongst the many kids that will be rushing
