how common is it to drop out of a sorority?

by:

Hi all! I was wondering how common it is for a sorority sister to deactivate. Is it something that happens every semester? Every few years? Obviously a lot will depend on the chapter. Thanks!

I'm a new baby in a sorority and I'm not really enjoying it as much as I thought I would. I love Alpha Phi but I just haven't really been able to mesh well with the other girls. help?

It's relatively common. However if you're a new baby I would find out when your sorority requires you to start paying dues and stick it out till then, to see. You might change your mind or you might still leave. It's literally been less than a week. Sorority sisters are human beings. Not some strange sci fi cult where you're going to be of one mind instantly or something. You're not automatically going to make a billion new friends. You still have to put in the effort to get to know your sisters. I felt kinda awkward my first few weeks too. Your chapter has a new member educator who can tell you when dues start and who you can talk to about feeling like you're not fitting in. If you're not feeling it still when dues start, drop. Nothing lost and recruitment was still probably a cool (if exhausting) experience.

dropouts are super common in the first month or so. I don't know a single house that hasn't had some deactivations within their pledge class. Some people go through rush and then decide its not for them, or realize that the costs are much higher than they previously expected. some houses try to do big/little week, initiation etc super soon into the semester to prevent that from happening, and other houses push it til later in the semester to make sure theyre only initiating girls who want to stay.
