only listing one house on pref card

Can someone explain to me fully how this works? I love one of the houses I have on pref night but am not feeling the other one at all.. I'm wondering if I have a better chance of getting in my top house if I "maximize my options" than if I only list one. Thanks so much!

Better to maximize. If you aren't ranked highly on your last choices's pick, you automatically get your first. Your name goes through the system more times.
