I was reading up on reputations and tiers and I saw a huge thread on College Confidential about tiers. But it's almost 30 pages long and a lot of people have different opinions. Anyone have anything to say about its accuracy?

Personally, I prefer this site. Of course there's plenty of libel and rumors on it, but it gives a multitude of opinions per house, giving a bigger picture. In contrast, those forum posts, some of which are years old, say things like "the rest of the houses don't matter", which is not true because or Greek community is pretty strong - most houses, including "mid" ones, are very respectable. Just take gossip with a grain of salt. You'll see during rush.

In brief: A lot of old forum posts have the gist of reputations, but can be outdated or biased by time. GreekRank, while by no means unbiased, at least gives a variety of opinions and emphasizes the strengths AND weaknesses of EVERY house.

Hope that helps and hope you find a great house when you rush. :) All the houses have something to offer, so keep an open mind! Use sites like this as a guideline, nothing more.

The "@Forums" makes a lot of sense. I've seen that thread too. It gave me a sense of the differences among houses and stuff, but a lot of it doesn't seem true. Same goes for this site because there's plenty of self ranking and rumor starting, but at least multiple opinions offset that. This site may be filled with immature girls rating houses, but at least the rumors are consistent with the current conditions. I found that CC thread just now and they think ADPi is upper middle? Definitely out of date.

yeah that forum is really out of date. it was started in 2008. do you realize, 4 years later, that the houses are now completely different people? i've found the info on this site much more accurate for sororities. that forum seems better for frats though.

Hi, I'm currently a attending a junior college but I'm positive about my chances of getting into Cal this fall (keeping my hopes up.) If I get accepted I'm seriously looking into rushing a sorority but I heard and read some discouraging posts about juniors having super diminished chances, and I can only imagine it must be even worse for transfers... coming from a JC... Can someone tell me what the deal is here? Are some houses more accepting than others? Do JC transfers rarely even rush or is it common at Cal. I will turn 21 in September so I sense they might think I'm too old too.

To the JC transfer:
Higher ranked sororities usually prefer freshmen. Most transfers bs up in lower houses, but you might like those houses! Just go through all rush and see. If you don't like where you end up, you can drop.

To the forum question:
College Cinfidential's thread is pretty old and so are many of it's posters. For sororities I'd say it's mostly outdated. For frats it's not bad... they don't change reps as quickly since their pledge classes are tiny.

To the nationally strong question:
Most of Berkeley's chapters are strong nationally. Some, like SK and AoPi are a little less, but the trade off is that AT Cal, those houses are rising fast. Other houses are nationally strong but falling at Cal - APhi for mistreatment of sisters, ADPi and Pi Phi for hazing, and Theta's always bottom...

It is true that the top 4 take almost exclusively freshmen (a few outstanding sophomores maybe, who know lots of girls in the hous or are legacies. I have yet to see a junior, let alone transfer pledge, sorry.) the mid tiers are not against taking them, as I know there are some juniors who pledge them, and maybe one or two transfers every year ((I believe they really have to be liked though, as freshmen get priority there too.) 90% of transfers probably end up in the bottom 4. But bottom houses are better than no house, right?

No, Dont do ADPi. If your 21, you can drink without being hazed, its really not worth it, and if they end up on social probation this or next year, you'll be pissed you joined.

However, Theta, GPB and DDD are wonderful houses. They shower their new members with gifts, and are also really involved in the Greek Community. They still have exchanges/invites, and they're also less competitive to get on lists to go to. GPB and DDD both have girls that can rage, and girls that are more reserved.

Want to meet guys from top tier frats? If wont be at exchanges, but you can always meet these guys through other Greek events like Greek week, and other philanthropy events. Even houses that dont mix with lower houses sent them a SMALL (around 10) amount of bids for their bigger parties. Those bids wont be so competitive at lower houses.
