You must be a PiPhinin denial about losing your spot.... Things have changed big time this year and Sigma Kappa IS a top house now. Their girls are some of the prettiest, comparable to Kappa with more minorities, and they are much classier now than they used to be.
A lot of things have changed, and here is the newest, updated order:
Kappa
Sigma Kappa
DG
Pi Phi
---
AOPi
ChiO
AXO
Alpha Phi
---
Tridelt
Gamma Phi
ADPi
Theta

I just wanted to say that being in any sorority here at Cal is a wonderful experience of a lifetime. The sorority women are, in addition to being beautiful young ladies, some of the smartest, motivated and most inspiring women! You can have the time of your life in the house that you love and that loves you, no matter what "tier" it is in. All houses do sisterhood bonding events, formal events, invites, and exchanges. All houses have sweet and catty girls. AND all houses get pretty girls. There is less of a difference between the tiers than people make it seem like on here. During recruitment you'll realize this when you see all the recruitment counselors (sisters from all chapters, whose chapter is a secret) who could pretty much be in any of the twelve houses. There are no rigid lines separating the chapters, and saying things like "this chapter gets the hot, unattractive, nice or mean girls" is bogus. The houses have a mix of a variety of different girls who complement each other.

Can anyone tell me what sororities are really looking for in girls. I've heard people say many different things, like looks are most impoartant or personality matters most. Some people also told me that they care really much about GPA and being involved in activities and stuff. Is being shy really a "turn-off during rush" like someone posted earlier? Also, girls I know said the worst thing you can do during rush is talk about guys, drinking, partying, etc. and that you'll get cut for that, even if you're great otherwise. So what do they REALLY care about, I'm really confused.

Yeah, they care about academics and involvement. Looks are important too - sometimes because girls can be shallow, but a lot of times just because a few minutes at a rush event isn't enough to tell much about a girl and looks help with judging. Just the truth. And being shy can be a total con, yes... outgoing girls tend to seem more interested. Plus if you're shy it might seem like you don't want to be in a sorority or like you won't be too involved, which hurts the chapter. Outgoing, involved girls make strong leaders, which chapters like.
Also, here are my ranks:
Kappa
DG
Pi Phi
SK
Chi O
AOPi
AXO
APhi
Tridelt
GPhiB
ADPi
Theta

As someone in a sorority here the reality:
They want you to be involved but not too involved. If your in Rally Com, you wont be able to come to our game days. If your in a political organization dont disclose that. Things like: I'm in European Student Association, or something like that is okay. They want you to devote as much time to the sorority as possible. As long as your social when your talking to sisters, then your fine in terms of not coming off as social.
If your an Engineering/Hard Science major: say your undecided. Pi Phi is NOTORIOUS for being FILLED with Media Studies majors. Other higher houses are like this too. Again, they'll assume that your too busy too be involved with the house. Houses have test banks and stuff geared towards liberal arts majors to help them with their grades. Houses also want to keep a high House GPA, and the average engineering GPA at Cal is around a 2.5. You'll soon see that the engineers/science majors are all in DDD/GPB/Theta.
