also there are a lot of really pretty upperclassmen that get cut from top houses but still end up in chi o, aopi, axo. just for being a sophomore or even second sem freshman. but theyre still gorgeous and make the chapter look good. and sometimes there are girls that dont fit the all white or all blond groups in the top 3, but have pretty brunettes (axo, aopi) and pretty minorities (sigma kappa, alpha phi... although you dont really see many pictures of alpha phi girls..)

Not necessarily. Personality matters a lot too. So does potential. If they seem potential beauty/personality-wise, your worth investing in. Also, dont be dismayed by the idea of joining a "bottom" house. Theta girls have a clean rep as being sweethearts. Gamma Phi is known for having an AMAZING sisterhood, and the most legit Big-sister week. Also they're rising, so they'll be mid soon enough. Tri-Delt's really involved, and usual wins Derby days. Dont join ADPi. Their sleeping rooms are AWK, and they supposedly haze. ADPi's not far enough up the list where its worth risking the hazing. GBP's next door and Theta's closer to campus if your worried about closeness to the row/campus.

most of the comments on here are common knowledge. there's no where anyone really "gets" info except word of mouth. gossip about the latest pledge classes travels fast.. that's why people talk about rising or falling.

Is this true? They are one of my favorites. Would you have a chance if you are not way above average looking though?

Yeah, the top 4 and APhi take almost no upperclassmen, and rushing as a junior basically kills your chances at these houses. But in the mid tier, AOPi, AXO and ChiO have all taken non-freshmen. But unless the mid tier houses really like you for your looks and/or personality, yes, you should be prepared to consider the bottom tier houses.

Rushing as a soph next fall. Im interested in the mid tier houses. I know a couple of girls in them, but can someone tell me more about the houses in general and the differences between them? Thanks!

Personally I Love the middle tiered houses best! They still enjoy the reputation of being sorority girls, and all those houses are considered fairly attractive. However, they don't have the bad reputation of "taking anybody" like the bottom houses, but don't have a snobby rep either.

You forgot APhi. APhi is known to be a house trying desperately to climb ranks, even at the cost of its own members. In looks they are similar to AOPi, AXO, And ChiO (while they do try only to show their most attractive members to make it seem otherwise)but in personality they are much worse, which is why some consider them the bottom of the mid tier.

Overall, I'd say the mid-tiers (except maybe APhi) are all great choices, especially if you are an upperclassman rushing and thus have next to no chance at the top 4. As the gaps between the tiers grow smaller, the mod houses are also gaining increasing popularity with the higher tier frats, who used to party exclusively with the top tier.
