The comment below is right. It doesn't really matter THAT much which house you are in within a tier.HOWEVER there are differences between the 3 tiers. Middle houses are different from top ones and bottom houses are different from middle ones in terms of which frats they associate with. The top tier mainly parties with top tier frats and the middle houses with the rest (the ones they like best), while the bottom ones sort of lack in frat relations (exept for tridelts who most of the frats don't take seriously though). Also, the lower the tier, the friendlier and less catty the girls are in general (although some mid-upper mid houses are super sweet). The top houses are known to have more rude and catty girls while bottom houses don't but they are known for having less attractive girls in turn.

As someone in a "lower-tier" sorority, I can honestly say that we also have frat relations, and have 1-2 exchanges every weekend. That shouldn't be a concern for PNM's. Just remember that there are 12 (now 13) sororities, and 25+ fraternities. Sororities usually have events (invite or exchanges) every weekend, while some frats dont.

Yeah, every sorority has exchanges. The difference is which frats they're with. However, there are lots of weekends for exchanges and each sorority gets a variety of houses to exchange with. So even that difference is not too big a deal. Anyway, a sorority's worth shouldn't be based on guys.

I'm rushing as a junior next year and these are the houses I would want to join:
Kappa, DG, ChiO, AXO, AOPi, SK
Does anyone know how my chances as a junior would be for these houses? I heard some only want freshmen and maybe sophomores.
I've seen/heard too many negative thing about PiPhi, APhi and I don't know if I want to join a "lower" tier house as there's a certain stigma attached (you can't deny this!)

Think about why you want to join a sorority. It sounds like you're most worried about what people will think about you if you join a certain house (IE Pi Phi, and the 4 lower houses being off your list). Dont base your decision on reputation. Base your decision on factors you discover during rush (the house, nice girls, good skits/presentations)
Just remember SK has the highest dues, and the upper houses tend to have a lot of katty-ness/drama. You wont get the same level of sisterhood as you would if you joined a lower house or AOII/AXO. (with AOII/AXO, they dont exchange much. TriDelt and Gphi exchange a lot).

#169by: Dues
Im pretty sure when I was rushing Kappa and Alpha Phi had the highest dues for the first year. I think SK live-in dues are higher but that's because they mostly have doubles while houses like ADPi will have 10+ people on one bedroom. Also some houses have lunch/dinner everyday while others don't. In the end I think the difference in dues is caused mostly by how much you get out of the house... they aren't just different for no reason. What do you guys think?
