With the addition of a new house next year and some shaking up in the official fall formal recruitment ratings last semester, Cal's sororities are getting competitive and uncharacteristically catty. Sororities at Cal are nothing like how they're being painted below, most sorority girls i know have best friends in other houses. You really can't get a feel for a house until you go through recruitment! But please don't let catty comments discourage you because being in a Cal sorority is a truly amazing experience.
#153by: Really
ehh really, just join the house you feel the most comfortable with and who have the girls you could see living with for the next four years, disregard the reps and who is rising or falling or whatever... and if you're basing it off purely looks, there are uglies and drop dead gorgeous girls in every house...even the bottom houses have hot girls in them and the top ones have some not so cute girls

Sororities are huge; 100+ girls! The reputations are kind of dumb because every house has all types of girls and the girls in the houses change so fast; every 4 years there are going to be 100% completely new girls! A lot of the stuff you read about reputations on here just isnt true and in the end the houses are actually all really similar (at least the houses on the same tiers). Here are the general tiers. This is all I think PNMs should know, the rest they can decide when they rush.
Top/high middle: kkg, pi phi, dg, sk
Middle: aphi, chi o, aopi, axo
Low middle/bottom: adpi, tridelt, gphib, theta

I agree, reputations don't mean everything. However, while not ALL the things on the site are true, they do capture a very very generalized picture of the attitudes that students have about these houses. They do have some accuracy but take them with a grain of salt. Also I agree that for rush, if you care about reputation, look at the tiers, not the individual rankings, as those tend to move around. Also its just more important to pick a house where you'll be happy. Anyway here are the tiers:
Top: KKG, Pi Phi, DG
High: SK, APhi
Mid: Chi O, AOPi, AXO
Low: ADPi, Tridelt
Bottom: GPhiB, Theta
#157by: 3 Tiers
I agree with there being three tiers with VERY little difference between the houses in the tiers. Generally Kappa has always been the top house. Everything else moves around a lot.
TOP
Kappa, PiPhi, DG, SK
MID
APhi, AOPi, ChiO, AXO
BOTTOM
ADPi, Tridelt, GPhiB, Theta

I agree that that's where it is now. However, old reputations still linger, esp. among older students. Pi Phi, Chi O, and TriDelt, for example, were higher; SK, AOPi, and GPhiB were lower, to name a few. While yes, these are current, it'll take a while before anyone even notices a change, and will probably think you're wrong even though those ranks are just updated. I agree with you though..
