racial profiling?

by:

I attended rush events for a couple sororities and received emails from both saying that i wasnt invited to their preference night events. I already have a major strike against me in that I am a sophomore. however one of my sophomore friends received invitations back from both houses which lead our other friend to conclude that racial profiling occurred. I didnt believe her but my self esteem has taken a huge hit. i thought i connected with the sisters but apparently not. Now im really in despair because rushing as a junior will be so hard. :(

maybe your sophomore friend is cooler than you are?
there isn't enough evidence to suggest anything...especially with how few spots there are in spring

Don't blame racial profiling. Guarantee you that its your personality.

Some of the houses are ridiculously white. Gphi, Theta and AXO seem to be pretty diverse. You should check them out for fall formal. My room mate got a bid as a junior for Theta last year and loves it. Rushing as a Junior might actually be easier than as a sophomore. A lot of houses pass over sophomores because they are in the same quote group as freshman.

Based on the houses that had open events for spring rush, I highly doubt that it was a racial issue - it's a pretty small minority of houses that get accused of racial profiling. And your year doesn't make a big difference either because sororities always have open spots in every grade that they need to fill during Fall Recruitment. Recruitment is really hard - you never really have any way of knowing how many spots are open for which grades, and a lot of it is based on who else that sorority met and who talked to whom. And having good conversations with girls doesn't always mean it's the right chapter for you. You're meeting so few people that they have a better idea than you do of how well you'd feel at home with the entire house. That's something I struggled a lot with when I went through Fall Formal Recruitment, and I didn't really get it for a long time because it's so easy to take it personally even if it isn't. It doesn't mean you're not as awesome of a person or anything like that, I promise! I know plenty of people in my chapter who joined as juniors, so if you do FFR I promise it won't give you less of a shot :)
