its fine not to know anyone in the house in spring rush--thats what rush is about, getting to meet those girls in a causal environment.
Since some houses are invite-only, there might be more girls who already have connections in that house, but it won't hurt your chances if they like you.

If you don't know of any girls in the house go to their Facebook page and find the email address of the chapter or the membership vp or recruitment chair and email them indicating your interest. Because if you don't you won't get invited to houses where they have invitation only parties.

Agreed.
Also knowing someone can either hurt or help you. If you don't know anyone, then its nice because you can make a clean first impression.
