status doesn't matter

As a senior (I don’t even know why I’m writing this but I’m hoping to spread my wisdom to people rushing in the fall) I want to just emphasize as someone who has been in a house since freshman year, social status doesn’t matter. I have friends in all tiers of houses and the thing that I can’t stress enough is that your house doesn’t matter. Every sorority gets bids to frats, every house has a group that parties and a group that stays in and a happy medium in between. The houses differ in the percentage of those girls per house but in reality, social status really doesn’t matter. I know how rush can get in your head during fall formal about the top houses and what not, but if I have learned anything from my experience, it is that status literally means nothing. What matters more is who you are at as a person. For cal day, I was at zete for a while with all the “top” house people and it was a completely different vibe than for example, tke with all the “lower” status people. The one key difference I noticed was that at zete/at ‘top’ houses in general, people don’t look like they are having as much fun. Maybe that’s because those people feel the need to put up an image (instead of being their genuine selves) versus at tke, everyone was drunk and dancing and having a good time and were not worried about what others thought about them and I think that’s something really important to note. If you wanna spend your time at cal in a house that prioritizes looks and social status over having fun and happiness, be my guest but if you care more about making friends and having a good time at cal without worrying about what everyone else thinks, then it doesn’t matter what house you’re in. Everyone can get bids to the top houses (as a freshman me and my friends who were each in different status houses would go to dke all the time because even tho it was a ‘top’ house, you can easily get individual bids) and i have friends in top houses who are happy in their houses but they say that they think they would’ve been happier in a house where there wasn’t such pressure to look good all the time in public/have a specific appearance on instagram/gamedays etc. followers/likes don’t matter in the real world, what matters is who you are as a person and the friends you will make your experience in college. just something to think about as someone who is graduating who’s been in greek life for 4 years
