is it okay for a junior transfer to rush a sorority?

by:

I'm a junior transfer that is a Spring 2018 admit. Im really interested in joining a sorority and was told to wait till Fall to rush but then was also told that I wouldn't get a bid cause I'm too old! I'll still be a junior in Fall and am not going to graduate till like the end of Spring 2020 so thats two years left. I was wondering if my rushing would be normal or if that would be viewed as weird and a waste of everyones time, thoughts?

It's definitely not weird, I rushed as a junior transfer and had lots of options as far as picking houses and got into the one I wanted. There are a few other junior transfers in my house and I know some in other houses as well. Now when you say you're 'old'--if you mean you are like like 26 years old then yeah that would probably be weird, but if you're like 22 or so then it would be fine. If you are interested in rushing, you definitely should not shy away from going through the process! I am really glad I made the choice to join a house, and the PHC website also has stories from other transfers about their experience with rushing and being in a house that you would probably find helpful.

hell yeah, I rushed as a junior and somewhat of a transfer after taking a year off for health reasons and going to community college. it was honestly not a big deal. probably my choices were a little more limited, but there were plenty of other juniors and even some seniors who rushed with me and I love where I ended up

Oh thats good to hear! thanks! I just was told a bunch that like joining so late I wouldnt get very many options of houses cause I guess I'll technically be a second semester junior even though I still have a full 2 years left after this semester

I, as a spring admit, did precisely what you did. I was super happy with my experience! Go for it-- I was also considered "old". I think it largely depends on your personality and how much you are willing to contribute back to the house.
