phi psi and ato spring semester

by: FirstYearatCal

I’m a first year spring admit at Cal and was doing some research about the frats that Cal has to offer. I want a proper balance of partying and academics, and want a large house with diverse kids. So far, I have found these two frats (Phi Psi and ATO) that appeal to me, through their social media and philanthropy. However, how selective are the two when it comes to giving out bids and choosing pledges? What reputation do the two have around campus? Are they known for their hazing rituals? Basically, are my notions about these two frats correct or is there anything else I should know about?

ATO can't have parties for a year, phi psi is too big and weak brother hood and just kinda weird Imo. rush these if you want but best advice is to just go around and check out a lot of houses and decide for yourself

Honestly both houses are extremely large and that's not too great for brotherhood. Check out many different houses and see what you like

A big house doesn't mean bad brotherhood at all? Every sorority has 100+ people and they seem to be just fine. If you like them on paper you should still visit them during rush though and make sure you have a connection

Why would you need a connection? Especially if most of ATO's most recent pledge class dropped, I'm sure they'd be giving out a lot of bids. At least in theory, a large house with a large brotherhood probably gives out more bids

not saying you "need" anything lol but you want to make sure you like a few people and get along with them before pledging their house perhaps?

a large house does not necessarily mean a large brotherhood lol

Phi Psi will have pledge classes of around 30 people so of course you won't have the same experience of a pledge class of 10-15 (smaller pledge classes get know each other more personally) and as a result the house in itself has a lot of uninvolved brothers who don't really come around.
