where would you place zta?

by:

I want to rush in the spring but I hear that a lot of popular houses don't participate. I do have my eyes on Zeta though. I talked to like three girls who dropped Kappa and Pi Phi for this house which surprised me. My friend also gave me a bid and I saw a lot of them partying at game day this weekend. Many of the girls seemed like they could easily be in "top" houses based on looks. So where does this house fit? I know rankings are stupid, but...

Thought the same thing but then I looked at the thread and literally no one has ranked these girls on here. Would agree with above comments that they're hard to rank but if you're accepting the ranking system they'd have to be lower based solely on principle of them being new. But I'd agree with above comments that they don't really fit the same mold of bottom houses, to be fair.

If I'm being honest it's too early to rank ZTA since they haven't really been around long enough to establish any reputation.

My floormate chose ZTA over Adpi. I chose adpi. We both love our houses. Can't tell you to "trust the process" because the process is crap, but if you're just looking for a group to party with and be friends with you are bound to find this in most houses. It's GOING to happen when each sorority has 100+ girls.

what I don't understand is what people mean by "new house"? Hasn't ZTA been here longer than anyone currently in greek life at cal?

They left campus in the 60s or 70s and just came back/recolonized in 2012.

Yes, but they have not been around long enough to establish a solid reputation in the same way other houses have given 100+ years on campus. 5 years is nothing in comparison. You can't really establish a solid pattern in this time.

I would say they are just about getting to that point though, especially with this year's pledge class. They are really lucky because they were able to score a prime location on Greek row (biggest house apparently?) and have a national philanthropy that a lot of people care about and are willing to support: Breast cancer awareness. This has given them a good leg up and a large presence on campus.

Also, Zeta is very strong nationally especially in the south, so when they arrived back on campus in 2012 the hot blondes who came to recruit from nationals attracted a lot of girls who would have otherwise fled to other well established "top houses" at Cal.

All of these factors have given Zeta a significant advantage in developing a reputation on campus, so while they're still low on the totem pole due to being new, I forsee them moving up to mid, maybe even upper mid over the years. Their girls are definitely comparable to upper mid house--at least most of them. There is still some unpredictability but getting stronger.

My frat doesn't usually do things with ZTA, but we got bids to their invite a couple weeks ago and it was a lot more fun than I expected. Girls were totally chill, social, party was popping. Surprisingly high number of hot girls, and they're personalities didn't fit the bottom tier mold at all. Would be down to do more things with them.

They were one of my favorite houses during fall formal recruitment which is funny because I had never heard of them prior to coming to Berkeley and didn't even know they were a house until a girl in my PNM group told me she really wanted to join Zeta. During sisterhood day, the girls were all really friendly and had upbeat personalities like they actually wanted to talk to us and get to know us. We even played small group games which was refreshing among all the small talk that week. Unfortunately, I got sick during recruitment and had to drop, but I'm really hoping they do spring rush because I had my eye on this house. I may wait until fall though just to keep my options open.

Its actually somewhat encouraging to read this thread as it seems like more pnms this year kept an open mind and really took a hard look at each house and made their own decision. Zeta is a wonderful national organization (I'm not in the house btw!) and super strong particularly in the south. Each chapter has its own character and this house at Cal seems to be evolving in a way that much more progressive than other houses and is frankly more in line with the demographics of our school/community. I'm so glad the house is getting the recognition it deserves as I think most of the other houses can learn alot from Zeta in terms of how to recruit and how to develop a sisterhood amidst diversity. IMO I think Zeta represents the future of greeklife here at Cal if our system is to survive other houses will have to change with the times (shoutout to the lovely ladies of Kappa and APhi here!).

I wouldn't be so quick to say that top houses are going to drop but rather that the system seems to be leveling out. Interesting to see what will happen in upcoming years as top houses are under scrutiny from both Berkeley and nationals. Also can't wait to see how delta sigma fairs as a local chapter. Tri delt and zeta both seem to be doing very well.

And when I say houses are "evening out" I mean there will eventually be no real ranking between XO, ZTA, DDD, SK, and ADPI in terms of looks. All took very similar pledge classes overall. Rankings will eventually be based on involvement and personality.

zeta's one disadvantage is that they are the biggest sorority houses on Greek row in terms of sq footage and rooms, so they need to take in large pledge classes and partake in spring recruitment. They also had the most expensive dues according to the PNM handbook this year.

this conversation no longer has anything to do with ZTA. please more it elsewhere instead of using our house name for your thread on race and rankings.
