kkg, aphi, dg

by:

Nationally, these 3 are the strongest/best houses overall and are USUALLY top or mid-tier at most schools.

PIPHI, THETA, are strong but not top or mid-tier as often across the country as the Super 3.

CHIO, DDD, ZETA, GPB are strong but top less often than the above.

AXO, KD, ADPi, AGD are top only on occasion and are slightly more regional.

AXD is never top and not nearly in the same catagory as the above.

PHIMU, AEPHI, SDT, DPE, AOPI are even weaker than AXD.

SSS, PSS, ASA, TPA are just totally unknown, generally speaking.

Did I forget any??

Chi O and ZTA are the two largest sororities nationally by active chapter and membership.

pretty sure aopi is like one of the most nationally acclaimed houses

Not true. AOPi has a highly questionable national, lots of chapters and very mixed success rate opening new chapters. Very rare to see AOPi in top 5 on any campus even though they are stronger at some places than others, its a very mixed bag.

Think you forgot SK. They are stronger in some regions vs others. Zeta, PhiMu and KD rule many schools in the south but are not as strong in midwest and west. Why not just go with Big 5 which would cover most regions: KKG, Theta, DG, DDD, APhi/PhiPhi (depending on region). Its tough due to regional differences with AGD, GPHi, Zeta, PhiMu and KD very strong in the south in particular.

Itam - I don't know where you got your info from, but it's not reality. Check any website on the internet.

The original 7 panhel members going back to 1902, Alpha Phi, Pi Beta Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Delta Delta Delta. Its unusual that one of these houses isn't in the top 5 at most schools.

@What? Not sure which websites you want to check that might have different info. I think nationally XO has the most members and alums, AOPI has the most chapters, KD has huge base of members and alums as well as does ZTA. But the original 7 are the oldest and more often than not are the top houses at most schools. If you disagree, cite your sources.

Just googled the following: 1. Largest sororities 2. Oldest sororities. 3. Top sorority in the south.

You can do the same. Info doesn't jive with your first statement.

The problem is people arguing this issue are in their own little Berkeley world. Need to look at the BIG picture.

And the BIG picture is the world of greekrank, where this very same post has been made to nearly every campus listing where they have these three groups. Wake up and smell the clickbait.

@what not sure what your point is at all as you are talking about at least 3 different measures of 'success'. Largest not equal to strongest or most popular but seems to hold together for large parts of the country, longevity correlation to various measures of 'success' or popularity-might be relevant to something but not sure exactly what and top sororities in south and their correlation to anything (phi mu, agd, gphi, zeta, kd mainly - not really super strong outside of south so these are outliers on the popularity scale). Why don't you put up a poll and see what others think. I vote with @tam I think as for most schools you will see one of the original 7 listed in the top 5 houses on campus. Just look at us: kappa, pi phi, dg and aphi - all part of the original 7. Its similar at most other schools. Curious what others think?

I use facts, not opinions as you have suggested. Since we are on Greekrank here is their ranking:

1. SIsterhood - DZ
2. Involvement- DZ
3. Classiness - Phi Mu
4. Popularity - AXO
5. Looks - KKG
6. Fun - DG
7. Overall - AXO

As for mentioning sororities in the South, I only brought it up since tam did. I could care less what part of the country is used as the basis.

Not sure greekrank would qualify under any definition as an acceptable source of anything other than gossip and even that is a bit questionable. I think I would suggest looking for another source. The houses listed in the greekrank info you provided no way represent a cross section of the country and anything that has KD and Phi Mu winning any category is a bit suspicious as they really don't have a presence beyond the south.

Ah - I find it interesting that you chose not to come up with a valid ranking yourself, but instead chose to knock Greekrank. While it may not be the best, it is an average of rankings from across the country. The only other ranking would be based on numbers, which folks don’t seem to like either. Based on numbers Alpha Omicron Pi is the largest. The next four are: AGD, Gamma Phi Beta, Chi Omega & DZ. Just google largest sorority to get this info.

The internet is incorrect about the largest NPC sorority by chapter number. It's not AOII, which does not even have the largest number of initiates---that's Chi Omega.

Delta Zeta has the most chapters ever when you include both open and closed chapters. This is because they merged with four or five other NPC sororities during their 115 years of existence.

Chi Omega's total closed-and-opened combined chapter number comes in second place. Between 1980 to 2012 their number of open chapters remained rather steady at 170 due to their closing as many chapters as they opened during those 32 those years.

As far as which NPC has the highest percentage of original chapters open, KKG wins hands down. KKG has established about 145 total chapters ever, but they fight tooth and nail to eventually recharter every chapter that closes (exception being campuses which no longer exist or no longer allow sororities). Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania recently re-allowed NPC groups after banning them in 1934 (Kappa Alpha Theta has returned) so look for KKG to eventually recharter their Swarthmore Beta Iota chapter. Any NPC chapter formerly at Swarthmore has a swell chance of returning there because most established long-standing (and still given today) Swarthmore Scholarships just after their 1934 closures.

I think it’s Chi Omega that has the most members between undergraduates & alumnae, but Alpha Omicron Pi has the most undergraduate chapters.

@by:/ I think you are technically correct with the info, but given what we have seen from both these NPCs, it might make sense to look at different criteria! Just sayin, neither of these two are steller ethical/moral beacons or at all progressive.
