what is cob?

by: jem

I withdrew on pref night and am now wishing I had not. I panicked when I was dropped by my top two. Do I have any chance of joining a sorority now? Are there any options?

The good news is at least you have acknowledged the error so now you can move on! Unfortunately, all the houses got large classes at or close to quota. Even houses with probation issues got quota or close to it as there were so many more people than available spots. So, there most likely won't be advertised (usually facebook) COB and if people do decide to fill in a few spots here and there it will be the friends of friends secret COB which makes it tough for you to figure out what is going on. I haven't seen all the final numbers yet but my suggestion is to start meeting people on your floor and in the dorm that have pledged and get to know them as it will be the only way to see if any of their houses are under total. Not knowing the numbers my guess is that XO will probably be looking for some people but might not do it now. AXO, DDD, ZTA, and Theta all did well but might be under total but not by much. DS might be another option but they aren't a national. Gphi seems to be taking a breather to regroup so that isn't an option either. Perilous times as the large classes have been rough on all the houses so you might be SOL until next fall.

@jem, sorry that you panicked and dropped on pref night. @rollers post sounds right. Depending how gutsy you are, here's an idea. What houses did you have left on pref night when you dropped? Are you willing to pledge them? Are any of them the same as the ones @roller said might not be at total or DS?

If so, you could go to that house's website and look up their recruitment chair. Write her a note saying not much more than you said above, tell her you'd like to be considered if they do any continuing open bidding (which just means adding pledges without going through the whole FFR). Be sure to leave all your contact info. Drop it by the house and ask for it to be put in the chairs box or mail it. If you drop it by, you might get the chance to ask whoever opens the door if they're doing COB. Otherwise keep your eye on Facebook or if you see girls in their letters ask them later in the semester or try to contact the chair later on. Good luck!!!

Be sure to let them know they had invited you to pref night and you really liked the girls there. If you are super gutsy, you could always ask for the chair when you go by to drop off the note. Try going at lunch or dinner time. If someone recognizes you they might try to help.

@bummer great suggestion! I usually err on the side of not pushing pnms out of their comfort zone so I'm glad you suggested an active plan! Total thumbs up! Thanks

@jem. Did you go to pref, ranked the houses and then drop? Or did you no go to pref? I'm not sure COB is very regulated here but I found out from my cousin that at some schools that if you suicided after pref that you aren't eligible for snap bid or COB until the next recruiting season. My suggestion would be to reach out to you RC and ask the question as I don't know the answer and they might get a faster response for you.

I went to my first party on pref night, and withdrew before the second party. Thank you for the tips and advice!
