endless debate about kappa lack of diversity

by:

Repost: Any answers would be appreciated! Like this post but I'm curious about what power, if any the "Diversity and Inclusion Committee" has to do anything to make a/any private organization change? Nobody has an answer to this but my guess based on very limited information is not much can be done. Given the way things are I am not sure I would want to be a WOC in our community. I am also baffled by why people are so surprised that the NPCs haven't changed much in 100s of years. None of this is new news at all and frankly its all pretty sickening. We can say our system is 'casual' and 'relaxed' and 'liberal', but the reality is that it is none of these things because that is the way the organizations we sadly belong to are designed. The motto for the NPC should be "Change at your own peril"!

@nuance: Are you the Cal greek woman who lost her beloved 2016 panhel position as "Diversity and Inclusion" chair last year? Your letter to the Daily Cal in Fall 2016 complaining of being removed from your beloved position leaves little to the imagination as to who might be routinely posting here about Cal's alleged lack of inclusion and diversity.

May I inquire as to what you did to make Cal's panhel more diverse and inclusive during your nine months in office? And what pertinent files, schemes and ideas for inclusion and diversity did you pass-on to the young woman who was named Inclusion and Diversity Chair just after you were removed?

Complaining about how the greek system needs to change but can't be changed then still railing about how it should change isn't getting you anything but sore typing fingers and downvotes.

@nuance. Not sure why you don't want to keep it positive on here and why you feel its ok to personally attack an individual on a topic where we need more discussion and NOT LESS (who cares why the person left their position or not as many of the points raised are solid!). You sound like all the other 'hammers' on here that bash away at the people speaking out or who have ideas or who are speaking out about what is wrong with the status quo. Our system is not healthy and while the reason for the lack of good health can be debated endlessly, I think it's a good guess to say that lack of acceptance of each other and different viewpoints on diversity are at the core of what ails us. Sad but true we all belong to private organizations that have a vested interest in maintaining the 'same old same old' on so many levels. You sound like you are a member of the 'same old same old' gang and frankly I think we need less of your type in our system as we are sinking. The 'same old same old' gang is the group that brings us endless ranking/re rankings, poor communication, zero transparency, no solutions, XO fiasco and GPhi death spiral. Kudos @nuance, we have zero to thank you for. Please just sit down.

The OP asks for answers in her first sentence then says there are no answers in her third sentence. The OP bashes the system then offers little to change it, asking other posters to offer suggestions.

OP says she would not want to be a WOC in our community. If the OP were a WOC and kept her identical "anti-greek because they are not diverse and nothing can change" attitude, she'd still be an angry young student. Her lack of positivity, not mine.

My offered suggestion was to ask: did someone who held the first chairmanship of an office of diversity and inclusion do all she could to promote it during her nine month reign? If so, what?

And if not, what was in it for her and her sorority to allow the "same old same old" to inhabit our system? Did she have difficulty dealing with some groups? Would they not change for the better? Are they changing under the guidance of the newest diversity chair?

It seemed a logical conclusion after reading one year of Cal greekrank Diversity and Inclusion postings that there had to be one main person consistently making the same type of post. These posting's had very similar grammar, syntax and ideas.

Identifying exactly how NPCs have changed over 100s of years I will leave to those interested in research. They have changed, and continue to evolve, no matter the opinion of the OP.
