can xo or panhel send out a blast email?

by:

Can XO or Panhel send out a blast email or text to all remaining PNMs to clarify the situation with XO? PNMs are scared, confused and have zero information about the status of XO. To ask PNMs to trust XO national after the way they treated their own house is something that no PNM should be asked to do. Not a way we should treat each other and Cal should not let this happen. Seriously bad and wrong.

I went to pref at chi omega last night and I have been thinking about this all day. I don't know what to think. I went to the national website and found this statement and kept thinking that the way we are being treated in not in line with the values of the national or this policy. I am stuck.

From ChiOmega website:

Chi Omega respects all individuals. Each member and new member should be treated with respect and dignity. Likewise, each member and new member is expected to uphold the honor and dignity of Chi Omega on all occasions. Chi Omega Ritual supports the principle that dignity is an inalienable right of each individual.

This is a total laugh! Sorry you are caught in this bind but seriously just say no to being treated this way. The national will survive and at this point I'm not so sure how much I care about the local surviving as this national group is nothing but pure irresponsible evil.

What moral responsibilities do the local chapter, Chi Omega national organization and Cal panhel have to pnms to address the questions around Chi Omega? The sound of silence through the entire week has been deafening. If the national doesn't want to stand for anything then that is their choice but I don't get why the Cal community doesn't stand for anything and why nobody seems to be looking out for pnms that honestly know little. I hope some parents know better and can help the pnms as god knows no help is coming from Cal.

At a minimum panhel should set aside pnms bids from xo and give these pnms the options to go to another house. To lock any pnm into a national that won't answer questions to either the pnms or panhel is reprehensible and shouldn't be allowed to happen.

Dearest PNMs. I am a former recruitment chair and I'm sorry you do not have the information you'd like to have about Chi O. Here are my thoughts, for what they're worth. I have NO knowledge about your situation. And your RCs know far more than me about pledging.

You are going to get ONE BID shortly. That's it. If you get a bid from Chi o. I strongly encourage you to go to Chi o and enjoy tonight's activities. As far as I remember, you have nothing to lose by doing that. You can confirm that with your RC. You've worked hard and it will be a wonderful night with sisters who really really want you. While you're at Chi o tonight talk to the sisters and other pledges only if it's appropriate. If not tonight, then make it your goal to call the chapter advisor or national or whoever to get the information you need in the next week or so.

While you want info and an email blast, keep in mind that most houses like to keep the bad things that happen to them on the down low. You can see that they wouldn't want to let the entire row and 1000 PNMs know what happened last year, especially since they believe they handled it and want to put it in the past. There are always two sides to every story and you should be glad Chi o has a national that values high standards. Maybe they could have handled it better, I don't know, but hind sight is 20/20. And honestly the girls who left may have done some things that were not okay. Again I don't know.

But take a chance tonight and go!

Ps. I'm also wondering if someone who has a grudge against Chi o is trying to stir up trouble and keep PNMs from pledging there by posting all this negative stuff. Don't let someone else's bitter grapes become yours.

You should also know that some houses that are alive and well and liked by everyone during this recruitment were on probation just a few years ago. It happens. Houses survive.

If you get a bid from Chi o at least give them a chance. Do you really want to be a GDI or go through this again next year? Do not plan on a bid from COB. I hope it works out for all of you!

Best wishes. Let us know how it turned out!

No bitter grapes at all. Just super worried about pnms not knowing what they are signing up for by joining a house where the national doesn't respect its local chapter enough to be honest about anything. I hear you on the down low issue totally but this is so far beyond down low that its crazy. The local sisters are being disrespected by nationals and our panhel is not standing up and saying how pnms at cal should be treated by ANY national. NOBODY is standing up for these pnms, RC's had zero info all week and have been asked about this all week and could provide no info. This is totally NOT OK. I can see going to the party, but don't sign anything until someone in authority provides you with an explanation you are comfortable with. Local sisters cannot provide you with this assurance as it has to come from national. I totally knew our panhel was beyond useless but what is happening to these poor pnms is CRIMINAL and UNETHICAL.

@100extra
I don't disagree with you at all but these PNMs are down to the wire and it doesn't appear anyone is going to come in and rescue them. Do you or anyone see any specific downside from them going to the party tonight?

As an alum of another NPC sorority I will say I have met many strong, upstanding Chi Omega women during my sorority years. Chi Omegas have been absolutely correct to keep this 'bad' information on a "need to know" basis.

ALL 26 NPC sororities react in the same appropriate manner when it comes to 'bad' info, it's called tact and being polite and having the strength of character to do what is right, not just what is popular.

Any Cal pnm who receives a Chi Omega bid should accept their chance for a lifetime within a sisterhood and an organzation that is well-respected for multiple reasons within the NPC panhellenic community.

And yes, there has been a greekrank stink by one or two very angry, mean and cruel posters against this Chi Omega chapter. The posts include syntax and phrases very similar to the hatred and burning venom used by the Cal anti-AOII bashers during the past 12 months here on greekrank.

By going to the party they are sending the message that they are ok with how they have been treated. How they have been treated is simply not ok on any level. I would like to hear a coherent answer by anyone at XO as to why they believe its ok to treat pnms in this way. I like XO, I truly do but this is totally not right. These pnms know nothing and are drowning in the emotion of the moment and desperately want to join a house. Letting this go forward is exploitative at best. Can't someone step in with authority and halt this until the situation is clarified and people can make a choice with eyes open and fully informed? This is like a daylight driveby robbery of innocent people. I think panhel should offer these xo bidholders another house and not hold them to xo at all. As much as I hate to say it I can see letting houses go way over quota to take on people that had a bid from xo. This is all so wrong on so many levels. So, to answer the question asked, "I would NEVER go to this party as the invitation was not extended in good faith - I am talking about the national here and NOT the local but its clear the local has zero say in anything going on with the situation".

Where the hell is the panhel advisor, xo alumni council, panhel president and chapter presidents from all the houses? Is nobody going to stand up for the pnms? This is so so wrong.

Do people genuinely think that not sending out an email to the entire PNM and Panhellenic community about chi o's situation is CRIMINAL??? Most chapters go on probation. Most have survived and thrived after it. Why would XO air their dirty laundry and their problems to girls who are about to join their chapter along with girls who aren't? It would just cause more drama and gossip. They will tell the new members what they need to know and those girls are smart enough to make their own decisions.

It looks like things got handled the way they usually do in the end in our sorry system by doing the 'easy' and 'same old same old' and poor pnms joined a house where the national will just continue to tell them what they should believe and what they should not believe. Another NPC used a big stick in the form of its rules/regs to yet again treat sisters and pledges in a way that was frankly neither nice nor kind. Apologists hide behind words such as 'tact' and 'polite' and say such things as the NPC did what was 'right' rather than 'what was popular'. I'm not sure when not being honest falls in the category of 'right' and when not telling the truth is 'tactful' and 'polite'. There was a time during this week when people could have stood for being kind and humane and caring as it related to the pnms and sadly not one person in this system took that opportunity. Instead we have people standing behind rules/regs that oftentimes make it easy to NOT do the right and kind thing. A large group of us wish the new pledges well as they will certainly need all the help they can get when dealing with an out of touch national that doesn't seem to recognize the dignity inherent in every individual. To the sisters of xo our sincere condolences on what must be a pathetic and dysfunctional relationship with a national that is out of touch with mainstream humanity. I for one hope the national doesn't close your chapter down, but seeing how they have conducted themselves I won't be surprised if they do and then give you two weeks to find housing as that sadly seems to be the kind of values as an organization that xo national represents. Yep, business as usual for xo national and our sorry panhel. Shameful.
