fall cob

by: pnm

I'm honestly not feeling rush or connecting with the houses i still have left. Who usually does fall COB/who do you think will?

I think you mean spring COB. Its too soon to tell but if its like last year with more big classes then at most you might have 1 or maybe 2 spring COB options. Not knowing your options its impossible to say whether COB in spring will meet your needs better than the options you currently have now. Seriously suggest keeping with it until after pref and then reevaluate. If you wait a year you will have to go through the same fall process as you have just been going through with no guarantee of anything frankly other than a bid. Tough choices to be sure. See if there are any sophomores in your group and ask what their experience so far is. I can just tell you from the other side of things that we have seen alot of sophomores and our quota for upperclassmen is small. Its absolutely doable to go through as a sophomore but no guarantee that you will get a different set of options vs what you have now AND you miss freshman year. No easy answers at all. You need to do some soul searching and if you feel comfortable speak with your rc about things. Wish I had a magic answer but it doesn't exist. Sorry.

I agree with the above post. You've made it this far so I wouldn't give up now. A lot of houses did not do COB last year and your odds of getting in a different house next year aren't necessarily going to go up. They may even go down since you'll be older. You've had a few crazy days and are probably exhausted. I'd hold on until the end and see how you're feeling. Pref night is really special. Maybe you'll feel it then! Lol.

PS. If you go back through the old posts on here to last spring, you'll see some questions about spring COB. I think you'll get the s bar it may be even harder than this.

@don't give up is totally correct! Everyone is stressed out now so its time to step back and take a break and stop thinking about things that cannot be controlled. Its been said a million times here but odds this year are super tough and some freshman and upperclassmen won't have options tomorrow. Pref is a unique experience so I hope you can see it at least one house. I suggest going through pref and then making a decision. I can say that I am not a person to cry (but I did today) but making decisions today was so damn hard because everyone was good and would have made a wonderful sister. I am sure all the houses can make the same statement. I wish you the best and remember you only have to match one house to get a bid (but you get nothing if you quit)!

Basically, COB comes down to which chapters are under chapter total post-recruitment or post-fall semester. It's sounding like most chapters will hit pledge class quota after recruitment so if they're already at full chapter size they most likely won't COB in spring unless a good amount of girls drop before spring. So you have a lot fewer options and COB is often closed/"secret" to girls that are already known and well liked by the chapter instead of being open COB events. If you want to guess now what chapters will do COB I'd think about the chapters that have smaller totals now (for whatever reason) since they prob won't reach chapter total after recruitment. But I'd recommend staying in recruitment until tomorrow and just seeing what your options are. COB is harder to get a bid.

@cob is totally correct. Looks like most houses will get quota for fall and so the only COB options will be if people drop by spring and house needs to get up to total. Given this situation give serious thought to playing out the options you have been dealt. COB will most likely not be open type either which makes things more challenging.
