what is sk like?

by:

I've heard really bad things about this house but it's one I've been interested in, with the right kind of vibe that I want and girls that I think I would have shared interests with. I know a few girls in SK (not well) that I like and I want a sorority that goes out a lot and has a fun, quirky, party atmosphere. I just don'T want to accept a bid if it ends up being awful. I don't want to ask the girls I knew in SK about this because I believe they'll brush aside any real issues. Mainly I want to know 1) what makes their sisterhood so bad or the girls so mean? Like concrete example. 2) Do they haze and how bad is it?

One of my best friends is in this house and they didn't haze at all. From what I heard there aren't any obvious sisterhood issues like what people say about DG or kappa, but the had the largest pledge class of any house last year and my friend said she felt like she kinda got lost in the shuffle a little bit. That being said though, I heard SK had the highest retention rate last year too so if that's true then the girls must be happy even in a dysfunctionally large pledge class. Girls are kinda a mixed bag... a lot of nerdy girls and some real hot girls but regardless they're always out at every party despite not being in the top tier. Solid house in my opinion, don't know why they get a bad rap

It is always the best decision to look into your own heart for the answer to "what are these women like?" and "how do these women treat other people?" . You are the person going thru recruitment. You must be the one to decide whether or not to join them on a lifetime sorority journey, based on personal interactions and not anonymous website chatter. Please be the pnm who graciously interacts with others during recruitment, and gently accepts that about recruitment which she cannot change. When others are rude to you, be kind in return. It costs nothing and cheers your day.

Kinda a random house with a big mixture of personalities. I haven't personally heard about any of these so-called sisterhood issues or hazing rumors. But the girls I know aren't gorgeous or anything but they're definitely cute and social alcoholics who are kinda goofy and have their quirks but know how to have fun. They go hard during sx's Derby Days (I think they won 3 years in row until last year or something) and as far as I know they do all the fun things normal sororities do. It's a great house imo but go through recruitment and if you still get positive/negative vibes react accordingly.

Agree with comment about SK as a diverse house. That being said I think most would agree and I think others have posted about the fact that there is a major party subculture in the house and if that vibe doesn't work for your or your planned major (hello pre med and business) it might not be the best fit for you. All I can say is to go with an open mind as this house finds a way to work for a wide range of people and the retention rates have been solid which tells a good story in my mind. I'm not in this house but have a few friends in the house and they are happy with their sisters.

Why down vote this comment? Its a fair opinion and solid advice. Who would disagree about SK party antics? Really.

Solid house. If you are comfortable setting boundaries in terms of partying that work for you then by all means seek the house out. Lot's of great people with all different majors. Some people that are more 'go with flow' in their approach reported feeling pressured sometimes to be part of the party crowd. The house is aware of the issue so hopefully will make everyone feel comfortable this year whether they want to party all the time or not. I'm not in the house but a few people from my floor last year joined and overall have been happy with the choice. Meet the sisters and see what you think and talk to others and see what they think. End of the day you have to be comfortable with your house choice.
