welcome parties?
by: cluelessI heard that on campus the first week of school many frats and sororities hold welcome parties. I was wondering on what days and at which frat or sorority.

Oh come on, RELAX and lets just continue the longstanding traditions of dirty rushing at Cal! OK, PNMs if someone asks you to coffee, drinks, parties, house tour or just shows up at your dorm or outside your class etc. JUST GO! Once you return, post on here which house and what you thought. Lots of this crap happened last year and because administration was so poor NOTHING WAS DONE. At other schools there would be consequences for such shady/illegal behavior but not at good ole Cal! Keep us posted please. Thanks

So right @can. Last year was out of control. But the funny thing was that the worst offender/s probably had the worst recruitment results which was cosmic justice in action. I do think houses should have been penalized though as what happened was so obviously not in spirit of rule.

Welcome Week usually occurs the weekend before classes start so think the 18th and 19th, but I'm sure frats are gonna throw stuff throughout the week as soon as y'all arrive so I'd keep an ear open. Last year, parties were thrown by ATO, Fiji, and KA (?) Other frats might be throwing stuff too, like acacia, but don't go. Don't worry too much about dirty rushing, welcome week is the one weekend a semester that you don't need to worry about bids and Greeks and gdi's alike can party in harmony, so just enjoy it! It's basically Greek advertising so everything is usually super dope. However, if you go out and a bunch of sorority girls suddenly surround you and start practically pouring alcohol down your throat while bragging about what house they're in: you are being dirty rushed. It's against the rules, but it doesn't mean anything... a girl I knew got hella dirty rushed by a bunch of aphi's during welcome week and then they dropped her after the first day of rush. Just know that if it happens those girls are shady af and you should leave to find your temporary dorm friends. Hope that helps!
Ps sororities don't throw parties at their houses, only frats (Greek life 101) :)

But sororities can and do informal 'house tours'.... To PNMs please don't be fooled by these games. Just bow out. Last year two houses in particular were pretty aggressive.
