what is up with dg?
by: 1styrI am an incoming freshman and also a third generation DG. Reading through the comments on this site I am confused as to what people think the issues are with DG. I am truly a bit apprehensive about even identifying myself as a legacy as some of the issues discussed on this site regarding sisterhood etc. are enough to make me not want to get involved with the house at all. Reading about the drop rate and spring COB were very disturbing. Any 411 would be appreciated as I'm not sure what to think.

if you end up rushing, approach DG just like any other house. it won't matter if you're a legacy there if you don't feel like you fit in there. You join girls, not letters. When you're a senior you'll be glad you joined a house you really loved and will have friends in for the rest of your life rather than the name.
having said that, maybe DG isn't super top or whatever but that hardly matters. some girls I know like it, others really don't like it.

Longstanding house at CAL with great history both local and national. Sadly local leadership has been lacking over the past three-five years and so culture in the house has become toxic for most people. Entire situation is really really sad. Don't know why national or local alums haven't stepped in to try to fix the situation? Still have some super people in the house and I truly believe they could pull it together if they tried. Maybe the answer is to ask some of the vipers to simply leave as they are ruining situation for rest of people in house? Last year they got major shade on here for how PNMs were treated during recruitment. Hope at a minimum they resolve this issue for 2017. Wish them luck as they had great tradition at CAL and would hate to see them leave.

House has many good people but a few seem to be ruining it for the rest which is super sad. Maybe a solid class that has good sisterhood this year might help as the bad apples should be graduating soon. Weak leaders have been part of the problem and not part of the solution. When I first came to Cal this house was fantastic but as the leadership weakened the situation has deteriorated.

There are some solid people in this house but I think they are overshadowed by the drama. I think a solid pledge class could lift this house up and have an impact over time. House has great traditions and history on campus and I hope they get a good class this fall as we need them here. Would hate to see them 'fade away'. Don't understand why they can't fix the internal issues or at least work on them. Will be curious to see the PNM comments on here about what they think after meeting the sisters.

yeah DG has been traditionally considered a top house but they honestly were so stuck up because of it. they don't treat pnms well, they don't treat other panhellenic women well, they don't treat each other well and now they're dropping because of it. of course, there are wonderful women in this house but the overall mood made me feel uncomfortable when i was going through rush

I have mixed thoughts about this house. I agree with posts that say the DG sisters are less than 'panhellenic' in terms of how they treat other houses. Not sure whether this attitude is due to feelings of superiority or insecurity? I will leave this judgement up to you after you visit with the sisters! I just always take their attitude with a grain of salt and keep it moving. House has some solid people and a longstanding tradition here at Cal. When I went through recruitment I had some great convo's with people in the house but felt more 'at home' at another house that I have totally loved now for 2 years. Only thing I can suggest is to 'go with your gut' based on whether you can see yourself as part of a house based on how you are treated.

There's a reason that DG has been dropping in rank. Approach them cautiously.
